2020.06.02 19:51 NewFoundPeace92 New Girlfriend is Canadian. Is it possible for me to live in Canada with a single felony? Details in post.

Sup my fellow excons. I am a Parolee who's been out for over a year and half now (18 months) and beginning the process of getting discharged soon. I will finally be a free man technically soon... A apart of getting my life together has introduced me to this beautiful girl in Canada. I am crazy for her but god damnit I have a felony conviction for Vehicular Manslaughter w/o Gross Negligence. I did 18 months in prison, been out for 18 months. This is in California. I have a strike because of this.
Is it even worth trying to date someone in Canada? I don't wanna break her heart or mine by having our relationship ruined because Canada said no...
I am a clean person now, I have had a stable job since the day I left prison. I am not a criminal, I just made a mistake driving high and a young woman died because of that choice. I have since gotten my life together. This was 4 years ago this happened. In theory if things work out between me and her I won't be able to even visit till I'm off parole but when I do get discharged and if things worked out I wanna move to Canada. If I find a good job in Canada willing to hire me (a hurdle I don't even wanna think about at the moment) will that help gain me entrance into the country at least temporarily on a work visa while I sort things out?
It sounds like I'm ask all these questions a bit early but I realized if I don't at least get started now, I'm gonna be waiting much longer down the road. I wanna be prepared and hope for the best. I wanna believe someone in Canada will look at me, my record and what I am doing and see I am not a threat to Canadian society.
Man it's unreal how much I deserve this pain and punishment. It's so difficult right now because I have no right to even feel bad or upset. I'm the reason this situation is gonna potentially not work and it FUCKING HATE IT!!! It's not fair I might end up hurting someone just because of a past already said and done...
tl;dr - What are my odds the Canadian government will allow me to date someone in the country if I can prove I am not a problem to society?

2019.09.12 21:36 recycledstardust Just found out an ex is in a correctional facility. I want to write to him but am overwhelmed.

Hi,
I’m not sure if this is allowed, as I’m not an excon and neither is the person in question. But I’d like perspectives from people who have been in a correctional facility and undergone that process.
Long story short, I dated a guy in high school for around a year (which is not that long, but in high school it was a long time and we went through a lot of big moments together). He had always been an extremely high energy person, pretty nerdy and had big dreams. When we dated he had a big heart and loved intensely - so intensely that I had to break up with him because I didn’t feel as in love with him as he was with me.
He was in college and apparently stabbed two other students during an acting scene. Luckily, the victims are still alive. This was completely out of the blue - I NEVER knew him to be remotely violent despite his impulsiveness and intensity. I’ve talked with his mom and she said that professionals decided it was a psychotic break. I don’t really have an opinion because we hadn’t spoken for a year prior to the incident.
He’s been in the correctional facility for most of this year, with his trial set to happen soon. Even if he does plead not guilty by reason of mental defect, he could spend up to 43 years in a psychiatric facility. It won’t be possible for his life to ever be the same, and so part of me is just mourning him.
I heard this recently from his mom and I’m, quite frankly, overwhelmed with emotions. On one hand, I want to support him, and his mom told me that when she mentioned me to him, he said it would mean a lot to him to hear from me. I’m planning on writing him a letter, maybe a few if I feel called to (but I’m not going to promise anything of course, I don’t want to get his hopes up just to deeply disappoint him). On the other hand, I’m not sure what this says about me morally. The bottom line is that he did hurt other people - this wasn’t a victimless crime. I made the mistake of reading some comments on an article about him and people were vicious. It hurt to read them saying such horrible things about him, but it snapped me back to the reality that he did hurt people.
I figure that at this point, he probably deeply regrets the situation and I can’t imagine the guilt and shame that he’s undergoing, so it should be okay to write him and it doesn’t mean that I condone crime. I can still respect the victims while also supporting him, right?
When I do write the letter, I’m unsure of what to say or what’s allowed. Is there a way to find this out? I know from his mom that they read the letters and that you can only send paper (not like, glitter or anything). I just don’t want my letter to get “lost in the mail.” Am I allowed to refer to the legal situation at all (for example, saying “Your mom told me where you’ve been for the past year. Despite what happened, I’ve always known you as someone who has made me feel safe and secure.”) ? Or should I just stick to talking about other topics? Should I mention what I’m up to (we had the same career goal and I’m not sure how it would make him feel to know that I’m pursuing it while he can most likely never pursue it again) or just talk about other random stuff/memories?
I’m wondering if anyone here can give some insight into this situation, or any advice (do’s and don’ts, stuff like that). I’ve never been in this situation and I want to handle it the best I can.
Thank you so much for reading and responding if you have the time and energy. I wish y’all well.

2019.01.27 17:11 hatsek Hungary: Prosecution asks 7 years prison for ex-con who killed 2 people while speeding on drugs, 8 years for programming student who reported security vulnerability

If anyone is interested about state of Hungarian justice, two current news will tell you everything:
On one hand we have an ex-con maffioso who was speeding at 160km/h in downtown Budapest with no licence and high on cocaine, killing two people in a crash. Another Hungarian redditor detailed the news about him few months ago - please go over it to see how batshit corrupt the whole process is. In latest development, he is looking at 7 years 2 months of prisontime.
The other party is then-18 year old programming student who in 2017 reported a vulnerability in the payment system of Budapest Transport Company, developped by the subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom. The kid got arrested and is under investigation since, you can read most of his story here.. Basically incompetent people&companies trying to cover up their failure by using the teen as a scapegoat. Not much was heard about the case, but recently the NGO thats doing his defense reported that they were first offered a plea bargain: 2 years suspended sentence if he pleads guilty, but if he denies it can be up to 5 years in prison. The prosecution unashamedly declared they don't know anything about IT security, yet refuses to hire a third-party expert to consult them. Thankfully at least the court so far refused such prosecutions demands such as putting the student into detention.
As they denied the bargain, now the prosecution wants 8 years prison for "disruption of public utility". The whole matter is mired in incompetence, for example the indictment simply refers the law the guy supposedly breached, but doesn't specifies how, where and when. By the way this e-ticket system is still nowhere and they now say 2020 is the earliest date for activation, naturally way over budget.
So in Hungary, if you are an ex-con that kills people by far exceeding speed limits (cherry on shit-cake, snorted a line of white before getting into the car) is less serious crime than reporting a software bug. (For clarity, obviously its two different courts and offices of prosecution in question).

2019.01.08 18:41 WritingDog Bad Roommate: The Final Showdown

This is the story about how I finally ditched a bad roommate forever. I even nuked our longstanding friendship over this, but I still don't regret it.
This is the same roommate from my laundry story and my ex-con story. Now, he did more things than just this, but most of the stories are short and really almost not worth writing about (like the time he, without telling me, adopted a cat that was too fat to move and needed to be carried everywhere, then vanished for 3 weeks. I discovered the cat about day 2 of his latest disappearance.) Anyway, on to the story!

At the time this story takes place, we were no longer roommates. We'd moved out of the duplex, me to move in with my boyfriend, and him with his boyfriend. Somehow we were still friends. Now, Seattle is $$$$$$ and the place my boyfriend and I were living was all we could afford, but we had black mold, a non-working fridge, rats, drug dealers, drug seekers trying to break down our apartment door at 2 in the morning, the fire alarm went off constantly (I think the record was 10 times in 2 days), and on and on, and we wanted to break our lease and get out.
A few houses down from my boyfriend's parents house was a house that had squatters living in it. We tracked down the owners in Japan and arranged to kick out the squatters and move in for very little rent, in exchange for cleaning up the house. (A 6 bedroom 3 story house for less than a quarter of what we were paying for the awful apartment.)

So we kick out the squatters and clean up the interior enough that we can move in.
Somehow awful roommate found out the date we were moving in (I'm guessing through facebook. But honestly not sure.) I was home alone while boyfriend was returning the moving truck when I hear a knock on the front door. It's old awful roommate with a bag of clothes.
"Hey, I thought I could do laundry at your house while we hang out together," Awful roommate says as he pushes past me into the house and sees the boxes piled everywhere. "Wow, this place is a mess. I can't believe you live like this."
"You can't do laundry. We can't even get into the basement where the washer and dryer are right now." (Which was true, the door to the stairs had our bedframe leaning against it. "And we literally just moved in. I'm not up for hanging out. I need to unpack some."
"Ok, cool. Well, I'll just leave my clothes in my room then while I get the rest of my things from my van."
At this point my mouth is just gaping open like a fish. I sputter for a moment while I try to think of a reply. Finally I get out, "WHAT?"
"We're moving in! My boyfriend will be by later with the truck."
"You aren't moving in."
General whining from awful roommate.
"What? No! YOU! CAN'T! MOVE! IN!" (More background: we had maybe discussed getting a place together just so bf and I could get out of the hellhole, but no concrete plans had been made. We have plenty of room, honestly, but this left such a bad taste in my mouth. I was just furious. and it's really hard to make me mad.)
"What are we supposed to do??? We already spent money on a truck and turned in our notice."
"Not my problem." And I kick him and his laundry out of the house. Awful roommate sits in his van outside the house until my boyfriend comes home. I tell boyfriend what happens, he goes out and talks to awful roommate. I don't know what was said, but awful roommate finally leaves. I never spoke to him again.
Later that night, after we can get into the basement again, I go to do laundry. The washing machine breaks midcycle, leaving everything I own wet and soapy. I end up having to make a midnight run to Wal-mart for clothing so I can go to work the next day. Made me wish I had actually let him do laundry. >.>

tl/dr: old roommate shows up with all his stuff the day we move into a new place and tries to move in with us.

A Union of Opposites: The End of the Age and the Splitting of Time

Hell's Kitchen

I have been fixated on this H, Hell's Kitchen, H-K thing for a week or so and that always means there's something there, even if its small. H-K is equivalent to 8-11 or 11-8. The 2016 election was held on 11-8 with Trump not being announced as the winner until after midnight on 11-9. After looking at this picture below and thinking about "A Song of Fire and Ice" (Game of Thrones), I started to wonder how those 2 letters could represent duality and the union of opposites at the same time.

https://preview.redd.it/ih072pgmpps11.jpg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2854fb45dfc01fade6ba5412509a2f020e499989

11 + 8 = 19 = 10 = 1

But why the imbalance on one side and not the other? After looking at the H Hillary logo again, I noticed something. The middle part was red arrow and acted like a bridge to the other side. So it essentially looked like 2 towers with a bridge in the middle. Or 1 & 1. So then you have H-K = 11-11

So you have 2 dualistic things uniting as one. Male and female. H & K. The IHS makes a lot more sense to me now. The IH representing the union in a sort of siamese twin way, combining 2 H's together I-I-I which is actually a symbol for Christ and can represent the 2 pillars becoming one in the middle. The S representing, I imagine, the serpent skin through which they united in. The human body. It's crazy how overt the symbolism is in this show and I bet no one even notices. It is over the top blatant. Like shoving it in your face because of "Hell's Kitchen" theme of the show just seems like its silly and fun and it is. I don't take things like this seriously but when you realize there is a very overt message they are sending through symbolism, it does start to creep you the fuck out. I have no idea what Gordon Ramsay knows or who he is as a person but I have a hard time believing he isn't aware of the symbols he is transmitting. Does that make him a bad person or mean you shouldn't watch his show? I won't tell you that. I like plenty of things that exude occult symbolism I'm sure. Although they aren't typically plugged directly into the mainstream.

Well there is a lot more to this H-K thing than I could have realized. Obviously the show takes its name from an actual place in New York, called Hell's Kitchen.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hell%27s_Kitchen,_Manhattan
Hell's Kitchen, also known as Clinton, is a neighborhood on the West Side of Midtown Manhattan in New York City. It is traditionally considered to be bordered by 34th Street to the south, 59th Street to the north, Eighth Avenue to the east, and the Hudson River to the west. The area provides transport, medical, and warehouse-infrastructure support to Midtown's business district.
Once a bastion of poor and working class Irish Americans, Hell's Kitchen's location in Midtown has changed its personality since the 1970s. Though Hell's Kitchen's gritty reputation had long held real-estate prices below those of most other areas of Manhattan, by 1969, the City Planning Commission's Plan for New York City reported that development pressures related to its Midtown location were driving people of modest means from the area. Since the early 1990s, the area has been gentrifying, and rents have risen rapidly. Located close to both Broadway theatres and the Actors Studio training school, Hell's Kitchen has long been a home to learning and practicing actors, and, in recent years, to young Wall Street financiers.
The northern edge of Hell's Kitchen borders the southern edge of the Upper West Side. 57th Street is the traditional boundary between the two neighborhoods. However, Hell's Kitchen is often considered to extend further north to 59th Street, the southern edge of Central Park starting at Eighth Avenue, where the avenue names change; this neighborhood overlaps with the Upper West Side if this is considered to be Hell's Kitchen's northern boundary. Included in the 57th to 59th Street transition area are the Time Warner Center at Columbus Circle, Hudson Hotel, Mount Sinai West, where John Lennon died in 1980 after being shot, and John Jay College.
The southern boundary is at Chelsea, but the two neighborhoods overlap and are often lumped together as the "West Side" since they support the Midtown Manhattan business district. The traditional dividing line is 34th Street. The transition area just north of Madison Square Garden and Pennsylvania Station includes the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. The western border of the neighborhood is the Hudson River at the Hudson River Park and West Side Highway

Hell's Kitchen is also known as Clinton and its southern boundary is at Chelsea??? That adds a whole other dimension to this odd H-K thing. Hillary Klinton? I'm sure this was done on purpose but for what purpose exactly?

There's a place called Mount Sinai and John Lennon got killed here.

Name
Several explanations exist for the original name. An early use of the phrase appears in a comment Davy Crockett made about another notorious Irish slum in Manhattan, Five Points. According to the Irish Cultural Society of the Garden City Area:
When, in 1835, Davy Crockett said, "In my part of the country, when you meet an Irishman, you find a first-rate gentleman; but these are worse than savages; they are too mean to swab hell's kitchen." He was referring to the Five Points.
According to an article by Kirkley Greenwell, published online by the Hell's Kitchen Neighborhood Association:
No one can pin down the exact origin of the label, but some refer to a tenement on 54th Street as the first "Hell's Kitchen." Another explanation points to an infamous building at 39th as the true original. A gang and a local dive took the name as well.... a similar slum also existed in London and was known as Hell's Kitchen.
Local historian Mary Clark explained the name thus:
...first appeared in print on September 22, 1881 when a New York Times reporter went to the West 30s with a police guide to get details of a multiple murder there. He referred to a particularly infamous tenement at 39th Street and Tenth Avenue as "Hell's Kitchen" and said that the entire section was "probably the lowest and filthiest in the city." According to this version, 39th Street between 9th and 10th Avenues became known as Hell's Kitchen and the name was later expanded to the surrounding streets. Another version ascribes the name's origins to a German restaurant in the area known as Heil's Kitchen, after its proprietors. But the most common version traces it to the story of "Dutch Fred the Cop", a veteran policeman, who with his rookie partner, was watching a small riot on West 39th Street near Tenth Avenue. The rookie is supposed to have said, "This place is hell itself", to which Fred replied, "Hell's a mild climate. This is Hell's Kitchen."
Hell's Kitchen has stuck as the most-used name of the neighborhood, even though real estate developers have offered alternatives of "Clinton" and "Midtown West", or even "the Mid-West". The "Clinton" name, used by the municipality of New York City, originated in 1959 in an attempt to link the area to DeWitt Clinton Park at 52nd and Eleventh Avenue, named after the 19th century New York governor.

I looked and apparently, Bill Clinton is not related to any of the Clinton's mentioned here. Hell of a coincidence.

Hell's Kitchen seems to really fit this place apparently. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that this is of course where the Marvel superhero DareDevil is from. Great show.

Two Scotsmen, Submarines, Bears & Nukes

I have also been seeing a lot of references to bears lately, this one being the first one talking about an attack. The bear hurt his arm and his eye. Obviously bears make me think of Russia. When the god of the Old Testament described himself just like the Beast from Revelation, he describes the bear part like this:
“Like a bear robbed of her cubs, I will attack them and rip them open."
Grizzly attacks hunter in mountains north of Yellowstone
Well there a movie coming out on Oct 26th called Hunter Killer (H-K) which the plot sounds an awfully lot like Hunt for Red October. Something Q has been referencing a lot lately. Both movies involve Russians, secret missions, submarines and possibility of war.

Hunter Killer (2018) Trailer

October 26th is the date that Back to the Future is set in, in 1985. 33 years ago.

This movie is oddly similar to Hunt for Red October. Not to mention there is a submarine in the Roku screen that people think relates to this movie too.
Processing img rtsxd2h89ds11...

Hunt For Red October Preview [Trailer]

Both movies deal with submarines, Russia and potential break out of war with a color theme of red. The last line describing the plot in the wiki is interesting.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hunt_for_Red_October_(film))

Ramius admits that the reason he defected was that after he was handed the plans for Red October, a nuclear war first strike weapon, he concluded that he could never support such an action. From atop the submarine's sail deck, Ramius, pleased to have made it to America, offers Ryan a quote from Christopher Columbus. Ryan nods in agreement and offers in return, "Welcome to the New World, sir".

I went digging a little deeper for more movies that are related to this theme and found some more interesting things.

Hell's Kitchen (1939) [Trailer]

https://preview.redd.it/xujgrq51sgs11.jpg?width=2156&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=93bf57f62b6010cdf1e2defce4049faeb29c05b2
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hell%27s_Kitchen_(1939_film))

Hell's Kitchen is a 1939 thriller Warner Bros. film starring The Dead End Kids and Ronald Reagan
Buck Caesar (Stanley Fields) is a paroled convict who makes a contribution to a reform school on the advice of his nephew, Jim Donahue (Ronald Reagan), a lawyer. Jim feels that the boys in the reform school, including Tony (Billy Halop), Gyp (Leo Gorcey), Joey (Bobby Jordan), Bongo (Huntz Hall), Ace (Gabriel Dell), and "Ouch" (Bernard Punsly), could benefit from the contribution, and he believes the publicity from it will help his uncle.
The superintendent, Krispan (Grant Mitchell), does not want the contribution to lead to an audit, as he has been carrying two sets of financial books. He gets a professional hockey team to substitute for the team his school will be playing. His reasoning is that Buck will place a large bet on the school and lose, thereby getting him angry and possibly violent, which would violate his parole and send him back to prison. Buck does proceed to get angry, and punches the opposing coach, and then hides to avoid arrest.
Krispan continues in his role as ruler of the school, which had deteriorated under Buck's influence. As punishment for their actions while Buck was around, Krispan locks Joey into a freezer, and he dies. The other kids revolt and Buck comes out of hiding to aid them. The kids capture Krispan and make him go through a trial where they convict him to "join Joey". Buck, however, has gone to the police, and they arrive in time to stop them. Krispan is punished through the proper legal channels, and Buck returns to prison for violation of parole.

Well right off the bat, you got Ronald Reagan starring in this movie. Obviously a giant indicator that there's substance here. 1939 adds up to 22 which can be 1, 1, 1, 1 or 11/11, which seems to be a very significant date. Trump will be in Paris for the celebration of the end of WWI.

So this ex convict donates money to a boys school to get publicity and the superintendent tries to sabotage him because he has things to hide involving how he's handled the schools money. His plan works and the ex convict hides to avoid arrest. The superintendent then kills one of the kids and they revolt leading to the ex convict coming back to help them. The kids want mob justice but the excon goes to the police to make sure proper justice is served instead of mob justice.

This story sounds a lot like what going on at the border with the child separation to me. Child abuse is a huge theme I am seeing in of all of this and I think we will all end up paying for. It's an absolute atrocity and my theory is that it is undoubtedly being used to traffick children. Trump could be both the excon and the superintendent which is usually how these predictive things work. So who is going to come rescue them? Or is that even going to happen this way? I do have a strong feeling that some sort of riot like that will happen so we'll see what happens but this will reach a tipping point.

Hell's Kitchen (1939) was actually based on another movie, called "Mayor of Hell".

Mayor of Hell [Trailer]

https://preview.redd.it/i033ng4csgs11.jpg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ff17fd2f03f1bb35e9662ef4489a97708a065dff
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mayor_of_Hell
The Mayor of Hell is a 1933 American pre-Code Warner Brothers film starring James Cagney. The film was remade in 1938 as Crime School with Humphrey Bogart taking over James Cagney's role and Hell's Kitchen with Ronald Reagan in 1939.
Racketeer Patsy Gargan is made deputy commissioner of a reform school as a reward from his corrupt political cronies. Initially, he has no interest in the school, but his sympathy for the boys, who are abused and battered by a brutal, heartless warden and his thuggish guards convince him to take the job seriously, as does an attractive resident nurse named Dorothy.
Gargan sends Thompson, the superintendent, on vacation and, while he is gone, puts Dorothy's reform ideas into action. The school is functioning well under a system of self-government when Patsy is called back to the city to take care of some political business. Patsy shoots another man during a fight and has to go into hiding. Thompson returns to the school and convinces the boys that Patsy has abandoned them. He then starts running things the old way and, when Dorothy protests over the poor quality of the food served, he fires her. Then one of the boys, Johnny "Skinny" Stone, dies while in solitary confinement and the boys rebel. Thompson is put on trial by the boys, who find him guilty. Thompson, in a panic, jumps out a window to escape. Pursued by the boys, many of whom carry torches, he scrambles up onto the roof of a barn. The boys immediately set fire to the barn. Dorothy, meanwhile, finds Patsy in his hideout and tells him the whole story. Patsy races back to the school to restore order, but Thompson is dead, having fallen from the roof of the barn. At the picture's end, Patsy decides to give up his political career and stay at the school permanently.

Seems like basically the same story but with a couple differences. The "bad guy" ends up dead because the kids carrying torches (Charlottesville anyone?) set the barn he is in on fire instead of him going to jail. Probably a more realistic ending to this type of situation. The movie coming out in 1933 is another indicator.

According to the wiki, there was ANOTHER movie based on the same story, this one called "Crime School".

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crime_School
Crime School is a 1938 Warner Bros. film directed by Lewis Seiler and starring the Dead End Kids and Humphrey Bogart
A junkman (Frank Otto) does business with the Dead End Kids: Frankie (Billy Halop), Squirt (Bobby Jordan), Spike (Leo Gorcey), Goofy (Huntz Hall), Fats (Bernard Punsly), and Bugs (Gabriel Dell). When the boys ask for a $20 payoff, "Junkie" says "Five is all you'll get. Now take it and get out of here." In a rage, Spike strikes the man in the back of the head with a hard object, and the junkman falls to the floor and doesn't move. When Judge Clinton (Charles Trowbridge) cannot convince the boys to divulge which one struck the damaging blow, they are all sent to reform school.
The harsh warden of the reformatory, Morgan (Cy Kendall), inflicts discipline at the school and flogs Frankie after he tries to escape. The superintendent of the state reformatories, Mark Braden (Humphrey Bogart), visits the school and finds evidence of Morgan's subtle cruelty, as in feeding his new inmates poor-quality food. He then visits Frankie in the hospital ward, finding him untreated and the doctor inebriated. As a way of starting over, he fires the doctor, Morgan, and four ex-convict guards, while retaining the head guard, Cooper (Weldon Heyburn). Braden takes charge of the reformatory himself and wins over the boys' cooperation by considerate treatment, while romancing Frankie's sister, Sue Warren (Gale Page).
Meanwhile, Cooper is afraid that Braden will learn of Morgan's embezzlement of the food budget, which would implicate him as well. He learns that Spike is the one who dealt the blow to the junkman and blackmails him. He gets him to tell Frankie that Braden's generous treatment is due to his sister's acceptance of Braden's attentions. Although untrue, it causes the kids to escape from the school in Cooper's car with his gun. They go to Sue's apartment, and Frankie climbs the fire escape with the gun to confront Braden, but Sue and Braden dispel Frankie's suspicions.
Meanwhile, Cooper "discovers" that the kids have escaped, and Morgan calls the press to discredit Braden and get him fired. But, Braden drives the boys back to the reformatory and gets them into their beds, before the Commissioner (Frank Jaquet), alerted by Morgan, arrives for an inspection with the police in tow. Their plot foiled and their fraud uncovered, Morgan and Cooper are arrested. The boys are subsequently paroled into the care of their parents.

This one is a bit different than the others. The group kills someone which gets them all sent to the school by a Judge named Clinton. Interesting choice. Then another plot unfolds involving someone scared of crimes involving money being uncovered so they try to frame the new head of the school. Of course this doesn't work and the fraud is uncovered and the kids are reunited with their parents.

I have been seeing this theme a lot. Crimes involving money, someone trying desperately to not get exposed too and the criminal going on the run. It'll be interesting to see if this plays out in this fashion since Trump has undoubtedly done shady and illegal business deals. I just wonder if this will come out sooner or later because a whirlwind of shit is at our doorstep.

But back to the first movie I mentioned, Hunter Killer. The sub in the red promo picture coming out of the water reminded me of Devil's Tower which is on the cover of the movie Close Encounters with the 3rd Kind, which I just realized yesterday thinking it was just some volcano the whole time (Keep in mind the bear attack happened at Yellowstone, which is a volcano). It's one of the things that was in that "trash" bag.

Looking for a picture of it to post, I came across this site and delved further deeper after I realized this was related to everything.

This means something. This is important.
I think of this line every time I eat mashed potatoes....
The Kiowa indians' creation story originated here... the marks are from a bear trying to get to children.
That's so strange. I've been having dreams about that mountain. I can't stop drawing it, and the other night I sculpted it with my mashed potatoes. This must mean something.
When I visited a few years ago park staff said it was lava that hardened in a volcano and then all the earth that made up the volcano eroded away.
Crazy coincidence. I think of it every time I'm throwing garbage and piles of dirt through my windows.
Thunder Bluff.
Is the right answer. It's a volcanic plug, formed as a volcano stopped erupting. Then the rock that formed the volcano around it eroded away over millions of years as it was much softer. This kind of phenomenon only happens with a certain kind of volcano with very free flowing magma - more like a crack in the ground really rather than the classic Mt Fuji shape.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devils_Tower
According to the Native American tribes of the Kiowa and Lakota, a group of girls went out to play and were spotted by several giant bears, who began to chase them. In an effort to escape the bears, the girls climbed atop a rock, fell to their knees, and prayed to the Great Spirit to save them. Hearing their prayers, the Great Spirit made the rock rise from the ground towards the heavens so that the bears could not reach the girls. The bears, in an effort to climb the rock, left deep claw marks in the sides, which had become too steep to climb. Those are the marks which appear today on the sides of Devils Tower. When the girls reached the sky, they were turned into the stars of the Pleiades.
Another version tells that two Sioux boys wandered far from their village when Mato the bear, a huge creature that had claws the size of tipi poles, spotted them, and wanted to eat them for breakfast. He was almost upon them when the boys prayed to Wakan Tanka the Creator to help them. They rose up on a huge rock, while Mato tried to get up from every side, leaving huge scratch marks as he did. Finally, he sauntered off, disappointed and discouraged. The bear came to rest east of the Black Hills at what is now Bear Butte. Wanblee, the eagle, helped the boys off the rock and back to their village. A painting depicting this legend by artist Herbert A. Collins hangs over the fireplace in the visitor's center at Devils Tower.
In a Cheyenne version of the story, the giant bear pursues the girls and kills most of them. Two sisters escape back to their home with the bear still tracking them. They tell two boys that the bear can only be killed with an arrow shot through the underside of its foot. The boys have the sisters lead the bear to Devils Tower and trick it into thinking they have climbed the rock. The boys attempt to shoot the bear through the foot while it repeatedly attempts to climb up and slides back down leaving more claw marks each time. The bear was finally scared off when an arrow came very close to its left foot. This last arrow continued to go up and never came down.
Wooden Leg, a Northern Cheyenne, related another legend told to him by an old man as they were traveling together past the Devils Tower around 1866–1868. An Indian man decided to sleep at the base of Bear Lodge next to a buffalo head. In the morning he found that both he and the buffalo head had been transported to the top of the rock by the Great Medicine with no way down. He spent another day and night on the rock with no food or water. After he had prayed all day and then gone to sleep, he awoke to find that the Great Medicine had brought him back down to the ground, but left the buffalo head at the top near the edge. Wooden Leg maintained that the buffalo head was clearly visible through the old man's spyglass. At the time, the tower had never been climbed and a buffalo head at the top was otherwise inexplicable.
The buffalo head gives this story special significance for the Northern Cheyenne. All the Cheyenne maintained in their camps a sacred teepee to the Great Medicine containing the tribal sacred objects. In the case of the Northern Cheyenne, the sacred object was a buffalo head

A scary bear attacks kids and they manage to escape by going into the sky... I believe there is going to be some sort of rapture event on the same day there is a major attack on America. Probably New York but it could be multiple places at once. Including chemical weapons. All this political talk of a blue/red wave/tsunami is kind of freaking me out to be honest considering the weather we've been having. I have been thinking the destruction of New York has been coming ever since I discovered Regulus was eclipsed in 2014 for 14 seconds, directly over New York. (I discovered that earlier this year). I have heard of repeated stories of nukes being set off in the ocean to cause a tsunami and destroy the Hoover Dam. There are repeated showings of the Capitol Building getting destroyed too in various movies. Semi recently was in the Batman vs Superman movie. It also gets destroyed in "The Last President" book but I think it's more metaphorical in that one. They set up the Arch of Baal in NY twice in 2 different places I believe as well as having the Washington Arch.

11/11 is Armistice Day in France.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armistice_Day
Armistice Day is commemorated every year on 11 November to mark the armistice signed between the Allies of World War I and Germany at Compiègne, France, for the cessation of hostilities on the Western Front of World War I, which took effect at eleven o'clock in the morning—the "eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month" of 1918. The date is a national holiday in France, and was declared a national holiday in many Allied nations. In some countries Armistice Day coincides with Remembrance Day and Veterans Day, and other public holidays. Armistice Day is not celebrated in Germany, but a German national day of mourning Volkstrauertag has, since 1952, been observed on the Sunday closest to 16 November.

Here in America, our major WWI monument is in Kansas City, MO and it's called the Liberty Memorial.

The National World War I Museum and Memorial of the United States is located in Kansas City, Missouri. Opened to the public as the Liberty Memorial museum in 1926, it was designated in 2004 by the United States Congress as America's official museum dedicated to World War I.

The ToweObelisk at night. The one on the left looks almost like a rocket with it lit up like that at like the moon. The one on the right looks like a volcano

Kansas City also has their own Arch of Triumph.

Nothing odd or out of the ordinary about it as far as I can tell that would indicate anything to me. It is dedicated to WWI and WW2 vets.

I started to get fixated on the Liberty Memorial and I knew that meant there was something there but it took me a while to figure it all out. What really caught my eye was the runway looking path leading into the bottom of the monument. Looking at it from above, it looks just like a keyhole. Well I noticed that the Devil's Tower on the cover of Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind has a road leading into the bottom of the monolith, exactly like Liberty Memorial. And if you look at the very top of the memorial, it looks a lot like a circular UFO. (I haven't seen the movie actually but the cover was in that "trash" bag).

https://preview.redd.it/sfwnrmz30vs11.jpg?width=1560&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6c0c4e2902bdfab0ec2450886f1351d6a52e0d55
I have been seeing a cow theme recently (as well as an island and a rose but that may or may not be related), and the Egyptian goddess Isis was turned into a cow at one point. ISIS being the infamous Islamic terrorist group. I thought the paths around the Liberty Memorial looked like a cows head...

https://preview.redd.it/eza0k3zi4ws11.jpg?width=928&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c68f757ded3845292b2b43d5f039eae794e06057
The key hole looks like those Ferris wheels being put all over the world which are symbols for star gates. The yellow Ferris wheel at the top is the one in Paris and that obelisk is Cleopatra's Needle.

https://preview.redd.it/t0mxark86ws11.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8c157cb41ed88f72a6b959d10708c7c46e377645

There even seems to be what looks like a "Red Eye" which implies an airplane (a late night/early morning flight is called a red eye flight. "Red Eye" also just so happens to be the name of a thriller about a terrorist trying to kill a government official while holding a woman hostage during a plane flight). I guess it could also mean 4/20 for pot smoking which would still connect it to everything on multiple levels interestingly enough. I have been seeing signs of planes crashing and vehicles exploding too. Just today Melania had to land suddenly because her plane was smoking. The fountain that looks like a red eye is what made me think of the cow being red. Which is what both Yahweh and the Roman volcano god Vulcan want as sacrifices. Apparently, a "perfect" red heifer was born in Israel recently which is suppose to signify the coming of the Messiah. So this "cowhead" could either represent an ISIS terrorist attack or a volcano erupting or even both I guess. Since this is called "Liberty Memorial" the target could actually be New York and Lady Liberty and I would always hope Yellowstone never erupts. Mike Pompeo is Trump's Secretary of State and he handles a lot of the North Korea stuff. Pompeii is the name of a very famous Ancient Roman city that got destroyed by a volcanic eruption from Mt Vesuvius.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eruption_of_Mount_Vesuvius_in_79
In AD 79 Vesuvius erupted in one of the most catastrophic and famous eruptions of all time. Historians have learned about the eruption from the eyewitness account of Pliny the Younger, a Roman administrator and poet who dated the eruption to August 24th which was long accepted though with some doubts due to finds such as fruits which indicated a date later in the year. New evidence, however, suggests that this eruption may have occurred on October 24th.

Seeing as how October can equal 10 and/or 8 and August is the 8th month of the year, this mixup sounds plausible and its right inbetween 2 dates that I think are significant, the 21st and 26th. Both correlating to Back to the Future. 10/21 being the day it was in 2015 when Marty and Doc went to the future

I know this "red cow head" has always been there at the memorial but the fact that it is coming to my attention now is meaningful. I've learned this time and time again with these experiences. I learned about the Roman god Vulcan and then literally a week later we actually discovered the planet for fucks sake. Interesting to note that when I was looking through significant events correlating with dates I have determined were important, I came across this.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Westport
The Battle of Westport, sometimes referred to as the "Gettysburg of the West," was fought on October 23, 1864, in modern Kansas City, Missouri, during the American Civil War. Union forces under Major General Samuel R. Curtis decisively defeated an outnumbered Confederate force under Major General Sterling Price. This engagement was the turning point of Price's Missouri Expedition, forcing his army to retreat. The battle ended the last major Confederate offensive west of the Mississippi River, and for the remainder of the war the United States Army maintained solid control over most of Missouri. This battle was one of the largest to be fought west of the Mississippi River, with over 30,000 men engaged.

Then not even a day later, I see a post on conspiracy where someone is talking about going to an active shooter drill in KC. These are never unmeaningful coincidences for me. Hopefully this stops that "never" streak or its a very insignificant event. I must admit, I don't know how well I'm going to be able to personally handle having knowledge of these events before they happen and not doing anything I can to save people. But even if I did tell people, no one would listen because it sounds fucking insane. I would love to just be insane this time.
In the New Testament Jesus says that as it was in the days of Noah, it will be in the End Times.

Genesis 7:11 records that Noah's flood began on the 17th day of the second month, which fell on May 2nd/3rd last year.
This coincided with the appointment of Emmet Flood as Trump's new lawyer.
October 26th this year will also be the 17th day of the second month of the Jewish civil calendar.
On October 26, 1985 (33 years ago), Dr. Emmett Brown arrives in the DeLorean time machine and persuades Marty McFly and his girlfriend, Jennifer Parker, to travel to the future with him and help their future children.

10/26/2018

1 + 2 + 6 = 9
2 + 1 + 8 = 11

10/26 = 9 and 2018 = 11 = 9/11??? 9 +11 = 20 = 2 = 1 & 1, 11
10/10/2018
1 + 0 + 1 + 0 = 2 = 1 & 1 or 11
10/10/2018 = 11/11
It should also be noted that October is the 8th month in the calendar the name originates from. (Oc = 8). And since H is the 8th letter of the alphabet, this makes H-K make perfect sense now. 1-H or 1-1-1. H-K symbolically represents the union of opposites then. Which would mean that demons or evil spirits would be able to pass through due to the union which would make sense in Hell's Kitchen.
Cessation of hostilities on the Western Front of World War I, which took effect at eleven o'clock in the morning—the "eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month" of 1918.

2018-1918 = 100th Anniversary

11/11/2018
2 + 0 + 1 + 8 = 11
11/11/11 = 33

I believe this is the day the timeline resets or splits off. It will either be the beginning of a lasting peace or beginning of WWIII. Not immediately but I'm not sure how this is all going to play out. Stay tuned, much more to write about these possible events: Rapture, North Korea nuclear strike, ISIS terrorist attack and a Jesuit assassination attempt. As well as the coming Messiah born to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. (I have no idea if this baby will literally be THE Messiah, if such a thing exists, but she will be VERY significant in the future, I know that much. Either for good or evil. And she will be a SHE. I am also predicting it will be announced that she is going to have twins only for one of them to die either before it is born or shortly after.)

One last thing before I go. I realized one of my favorite bands, Fear Factory, has a song literally called "H-K (Hunter-Killer)"

Fear Factory - H-K (Hunter-Killer) [Youtube]

The conscious man is dead
And I buried him
Beneath this scarred tissue
Armored skeleton
The machine is now alive
Desensitized with open eyes
Powered by an angry mind
And is refuelled by those I despise
I've become what they detest
A delinquent survivalist
Without fear and no regrets
They fucking say
I am a criminal
I am a criminal
I am a criminal
I am a criminal
I must steal
To survive
I must kill
To moralize
Leaving people victimized
Fuels my angst inside
I'm your judge
And your jury
You don't get
An attorney
With my verdict
Of guilty
An execution in fury
The machine is now alive
To wreak havoc in your lives
There's no use to hold me back
I am ready to attack
I've become what they detest
A delinquent survivalist
Without fear and no regrets
They fucking say
I am a criminal
I am a criminal
I am a criminal
I am a criminal

Fear Factory write songs that are pretty much all about man turning into machines. Another very important theme to the times we are living in. What does the future of our timeline hold?

2016.01.29 14:34 balegoola Excon now running a 20 person tech startup- AMAA

I’ve been in the same boat as everyone else here, unemployed & rejected. After 5 years Im now running my own 20 person tech startup, and I thought things I figured out the hard way may be helpful to more of us, so I thought I’d do an AMaA.
First- a few requesets/rules *im actively trying to hire excons with the right skills. (send resume & letters to [email protected] – I will switch the conversation to my real work email once we get to know each other a bit). Skils we are looking for are programming, data analysis, client relations, and general tech/computer work. Must be in or willing to move to the northeaset. *While I am open about my past, I don’t want a google search of my company to send customers to this thread. I am trying to be helpful without risking my business. You guys of all people should be sympathetic to that. *If people start trying to figure out who I am, or posting my name or my company name on this thread, I will delete my posts, and not come back, and stop trying to help. *If you do somehow figure out the name of me or my company via reddit-jitsu, DO NOT POST IT, please. I will not think you are super clever, just super thoughtless, and careless around our community here, and hurting a potential friend and job opportunity for yourself or others. (Mods can you help with this please?) *this is meant to be a discussion of post-felony work, and how my career progressed, and what that can mean for other excons. This is not meant to be a discussion of whether my choice to cooperate with the feds was the right one or not. That horse left the barn many years ago.
OK so here is my story: Chapter 1: Background I had 15 year career in banking, and degree in statistics from an Ivy League school, a wife, very young babies. 7 years ago I was caught by the feds committing fraud. Pled guilty to 2 charges (only a fool would have fought what they had on me). Decided to cooperate with the FBI. Wore a wire, testified in some trials, did a lot of training for the FBI in fraud. The good news- I never did time- because of my cooperation, I was sentenced to “go home and rebuild your life” (not even probation/parole) after having been kept on the bench for 5 years pre-sentencing (I was technically on bail during that period, cooperating, freelancing). The bad news- I have literally 8 million google hits to my name, and my cooperation & testimony against my best friends (who were also my co-conspirators) landed some of the in jail, and cost me most of the friendships I had (and generated a ton of juicy gossipy press that will forever live on in the internets.) My guess is that I have more “google infamy” than the rest of this sub combined (this isn’t bragging, it’s a sad fact).
Chapter 2: Working for free (ish) and going to school: I spent my first 2 years post guilty plea as a stay at home dad. Luckily my wife’s career kept us housed, etc. Lost most of my banking money to fines and legal. She worked, I took care of the kids. I was very unhappy- it was a very hard time for me (this was during the height of my cooperation), and while I love my kids deeply, being a stay at home dad made me feel frustrated, forgotten, useless & lonely. So I started to look for work. My only work had ever been in banking, an area I was now barred from working in, (and where, even without the legal bar, no one would even think about being seen with me at lunch, let alone hiring me). A really close friend of mine was running a startup tech company, and he said to me “we need to do advertising, do you want to figure it out for us?” I said “I don’t know anything about advertising” and he said “That’s ok, we can’t pay you.” I hired a part time nanny and took it (net net was losing $20/hour by paying the nanny and working for free). I worked really hard, for free, for about 6 months for this company. I did a lot of experimenting with internet ads, and figured out how to make advertising work for them. After about 6 months, they started to pay me a few hundred $ per week for my part time work. After a few more months, I used an old non-work friendship (an old sports acquaintance, who was running a different company) and the expertise I had developed working for free, and got a second client, doing similar work. Now I was making maybe $500/week working about 20 hours/week. Still losing money to my nanny, but felt like I was making some small progress. It felt incredible after 3 years on the bench to be actually working again. My self esteem went up hugely. At this point still losing money to the nanny, and my mother in law was babysitting 1 day a week so I could go to my client’s office. Both my clients knew my personal story (they had been friends from before my legal adventures, so they had watched the whole thing), and I was careful to always be super up front about my story, my situation, etc. I worked freelance for about a year for my 2 clients, and I really wanted to go back to full time work. Neither of them would hire me in-house because of my history, so I went to an 8 week work training program that focused on training people to work in technology startups. My plan going to this program was that I was going to use my experience as a freelance advertising guy to get a job at an established startup, one that would value my advertising and my statistics background. Midway through the training program, I started applying for jobs. In a sequence that will be familiar to all of us on this sub, the following kept happening: a) I’d have an awesome first interview or two b) At the end of about the 2nd interview I’d say “There is something you need to know about my background…” and then I’d tell them my story. c) I would get ZERO callbacks after that 2nd interview. Total silence. For positions that said they were looking for EXACTLY the background I had as a freelancer, and were eagerly hiring the 23 years olds in my training class. The one thing in my training that was going well was my freelance work- The classes in this training program were mostly taught by tech startup workers from the local area- I kept on going up to them after class, and making friends, telling them what I did, and they kept on hiring me as a freelancer to work for their companies. By about week 6 of this 8 week training program, 2 things became clear: a) no real startup was going to hire me. I was too much of a PR risk to them, and they were too nervous about telling their investors about me. (remember most tech startups are money losing, and rely on steady flow of cash from investors to stay open) and b) the freelance thing was rapidly becoming full time. I had started the training program with 2 clients, and about 15 hours/week of work, and I now had 5 clients and about 40 hours/week of work. So I started to focus on the freelance thing, and gave up on sending out resumes. Out of my 5 clients at this point, 2 were friends from before my FBI issues and 3 were new clients that I had met at this school. I made sure before I started work for these new clients that they knew my story. I had spent a lot of time working with the instructors, and we agreed that if you have as easy a google history as I do, your only choice is to be super upfront- if you are not upfront, you get found out anyway, and its way worse having a history of fraud, and then getting caught not being open with your clients, than it is just being clear about it beforehand. (people assume felons are sketchy- if you act at all sketchy, you will confirm what they assume. You have to act SUPER unsketchy) At this point, I had figured out 4 key things about working as a felon. Thing 1: Tech startups are a pretty forgiving environment. They have two different populations working there- one is corporate people who could be working anywhere, but love the startup scene, and the second is people who are working there for some odd reason that makes them incompatible with big company life. Those odd reasons are very varied, but because of this it’s a pretty loose culture, and people aren’t very resume centric (they are instead VERY skill centric). Net net, people have odd stories, and are pretty accepting of other people’s odd stories. Not like my old banking life, where everyone had a perfect resume. Thing 2: Even in a forgiving environment, you’ll never get hired as an in-house employee, but are likely to get hired as a contractofreelanceconsultant- companies may not be willing to risk their reputation to their investors & clients by putting your name on their website as an employee, BUT they are willing to hire you, just as a consultant/contractor. Ironically, being a freelancer has no benefits, but often pays better per hour than in-house. Thing 3: Don’t bother trying to get a job the normal way (ie sending in resumes). 100% of the clients I got were through connections I had previously, or connections I made through the startup school I went to. Every time I tried to go in through the “official” routes, I was dinged by the HR people. Every time I managed to sit first with the CEO or a senior guy, who then went to bat for me with HR, I got the client. (plus, remember, HR people don’t get involved with consultants/contractors) Thing 4: Develop a useful special skill, even if it means working for free for a year. Telling an employer “Hey Im a smart guy, hire me I can do anything, but I have this felony” is just not going to work. Telling a client/employer “I have this skill that very few people in this city have. You can hire the established guys for 2x my price, or you can hire me for half their price, and btw I have this felony” is a VERY attractive deal to an employer. I was pithcing myself as a specialist with a key skill, but at a discounted rate because of my felonies.
Chapter 3: Working as a freelancer. I worked for a few months as a freelancer. I loved the work, but working from home with no coworkers was very hard & lonely. My kids were running around (with the nanny), and it was hard not having an office or coworkers day to day. I started to work in one of my client’s offices day to day (they had extra space and were chill), and that helped some. The other challenge with working as a freelancer is it means you are running your own 1 person business. This means that for every hour you work, you probably spend roughly an hour keeping track of receipts, billing your customers, processing payments, doing taxes, etc etc. Its all the housekeeping of running a real business, but since you have only 1 employee (you) you have to do the work AND do the housekeeping. Its VERY time consuming. If you bill 20 hours out of a 40 hour workweek that’s about average. Net net at this point I was about breaking even with the cost of hiring the nanny. I started to try to figure out how to get a more traditional job, rather than a “work in your underpants from home” job (even if that meant making less money). One of my clients was an advertising consulting firm. They hired me to help improve some of the ads theirs clients were doing. They were about 4 employees, and were trying to grow. I had worked with them for about 2 months, and had been super upfront about my story with them. The owner was a guy I really clicked with. So after a few months of freelancing, I sold my business to this consulting firm, and went to work there (and brought my freelancing clients in as clients of this firm). Chapter 4: Running a tech startup. After selling my biz to this consulting firm, I became the #2 guy at this place. We had about 10 clients, (5 who had been my clients as a freelancer, and about 5 who had been pre-existing with the firm). The good news was that the combination of this firm’s brand, the CEO’s sale skills (he can sell anything to anyone, in a very non sleazy way), and the skills in advertising I had figured out as a freelancer, things started to take off. I then figured out a few more things: Thing 5: Having a colleague/cofoundebiz owner who knows your story, and can vouch for you, is very powerful. I would tell a client my story, and then my partner would (in a 2nd phone call) be able to say “I was nervous at first, but here are the reasons why I decided to take him on as a partner, and why you as a client shouldn’t be nervous either” Thing 6: Even when you have your own business, you still have to tell your clients. We were at this point telling all the new clients about me, but hadn’t told the clients that pre-dated my working with this firm, since those guys didn’t really interact with me. Thing 7: Doing hiring as a felon is a twist too- We lost one of the best job candidates we ever had because we hadn’t yet gotten to telling her about me (I was being lazy, and I HATE that conversation, so I kept on postponing it). When one of her friends said “Do you know the back story about that guy?” and told her the gossip, she was really freaked out, and didn’t come work for us. I started to be super up front about it with new hires, after we lost that one hire. Thing 8: There are problems with owning a business as a felon. We got turned down for a loan by Bank of America purely because of my history. Luckily, having the CEO as a the “Face” of the company minimizes that, and we haven’t needed outside financing (We didn’t really need that loan) Chapter 5: Running a bigger company: I started working at this consulting firm 2 years ago, and we had 4 employees and 10 clients. Now we have 30 clients and 20 employees. I am not finally earning more than I spend on my nanny. The firm doubles in size every 9 months. We have finally stopped up front telling my story to clients. We aren’t hiding it, but we aren’t bringing it up either. Our thinking is this- as we get bigger, they are hiring a company, not a person, and no one person’s story is that important to them. This has bitten us in the ass a few times (we finally told one client about it after 6 months, because he wanted me to meet his investors, and I didn’t want him to do that without knowing my story, in case his investors figured it out, and that client was PISSED that we hadn’t told him earlier. We almost lost the client, but didn’t.) We have also realized that a number of our clients we haven’t told explicitly have figured it out on their own. So let me summarize the key things ive learned in the past 5 years: 1) Don’t bother going in the front door with a job search- make connections, talk to people, network, but don’t bother with the “cold resume drop” thing. Instead, network your way in, and get the people the HR people work for to like you BEFORE you deal with the HR people trying to block you. 2) Develop a skill that is in demand, even if it means working for free. I worked for a year for friends for free before I started getting paid at all. It took me 2-3 years to break even with what I was paying my nanny. 3) It’s way easier to get hired as a consultant/freelancer than it is as a normal employee- figure out a way to do that. The good news- in the internet era, a lot of jobs are becoming more freelancey. 4) Be upfront about your story. People will google you anyway. Way better to be the one that pops the news, than it is for them to find it and think “oh that sketchy fraudster dude, he committed fraud at a bank now he wants to slip in here under the radar.” 5) People will assume you as a felon are sketchy. You need to be ultra non-sketchy in every way to get beyond that. Be a freaking rock. 6) Don’t try to minimize your crime or say anything resembling “I didn’t’ do it or it wasn’t that bad”- I think its way better to say “It was bad, I was a moron” and let THEM say “I don’t think its that big a deal” 7) Tech startups, and smaller tech companies in general, seem much more forgiving of weird life stories than big companies do. 8) If freelancing is successful for you, start your own business. Getting a job at a drycleaning shop as a felon may be hard, but no one cares if the dry cleaninig shop on the corner is OWNED by a felon. 9) Try to have a partner in your business who is reputable, and can support you, and make that partner the “face” of the business. This gives you someone to defend you, and who you can hide behind if there are weird issues. I am VERY fortunate to have stumbled on a partner who is a rock. 10) I think my business is actually pretty similar to a tech version of “the trades” – you want a house built, you hire a contractor. If that contractor hires a felon as a plumber, that’s the contractor’s issue, not the homeowners issue. I think my story is just a “Trades” story but a bit techier. Internet advertising is just an outsourced trade skill, it just is a slightly more techy/deskjobby trade than HVAC. Our client’s hire us to run internet ads for them, we do it. 11) Finding a freelancey role where its clear your ability to screw a client is really low helps. In the real world, its one thing to have a fraudster running your internet ads, it would be altogether different having a fraudster as your accountant. The less people have to trust you, the less your background matters. Find roles where trust is less important.

2015.09.02 15:01 vassyz Can't run Ruby 2.2.3 with RVM on OSX

I've got two MacBooks (one on Mavericks, the other on Yosemite) and the same thing happens on both. After installing Ruby 2.2.3 with RVM, I get the following error:
.rvm/rubies/ruby-2.2.3/lib/ruby/2.2.0/net/http.rb:923:in `connect': SSL_connect returned=1 errno=0 state=SSLv3 read server certificate B: certificate verify failed (Faraday::SSLError)
I've tried searching for a solution online, but nothing seems to work. Most of the people having this issues are running Windows machines.
$ rvm osx-ssl-certs status all Certificates for /uslocal/etc/openssl/cert.pem: Up to date. Certificates for /etc/openssl/cert.pem: Up to date.
Switching back to 2.2.2 works fine. Any thoughts?
Update 1: The instructions from https://gist.github.com/luislavena/f064211759ee0f806c88 don't really help me, as I already have a AddTrustExternalCARoot-2048.pem in my .rvm/rubies/ruby-2.2.3/lib/ruby/2.2.0/rubygems/ssl_certs folder
Update 2: Downloading http://curl.haxx.se/ca/cacert.pem and adding
export SSL_CERT_FILE=PATH_TO_THe_DOWNLOADED_FILE/cacert.pem
to the .bash_profile/.zshrc partially fixed the issue.
Now I'm getting the following error:
Excon::Errors::SocketError: Unable to verify certificate, please set `Excon.defaults[:ssl_ca_path] = path_to_certs`, `ENV['SSL_CERT_DIR'] = path_to_certs`, `Excon.defaults[:ssl_ca_file] = path_to_file`, `ENV['SSL_CERT_FILE'] = path_to_file`, `Excon.defaults[:ssl_verify_callback] = callback` (see OpenSSL::SSL::SSLContext#verify_callback), or `Excon.defaults[:ssl_verify_peer] = false` (less secure).
If I set the Excon.defaults[:ssl_verify_peer] to false in an initializer, it seems to be working fine, although there must be another way to sort this out properly.

2014.12.22 08:46 MommyDearestHoldout Nmom's Nboyfriend demands a Rolex, wants to cancel my xmas gift and demands I be evicted because I am avoiding him.

This is so irritating. Nmom's Nboyfriend once again doesn't have $$$ to buy gifts for Nmom yet demands a Rolex. Moves onto demanding my Xmas gifts ordered on Amazon.com be cancelled.
The main incentive behind forcing me out of the house before I have a place to move to is because I am avoiding him out of assumed hate or fear.
I avoid him out of both hate & fear. If he wasn't so gung ho about me reducing all my possessions to fill a shopping cart and to ensure I am homeless I wouldn't avoid him. I wouldn't. Yet I know his rare yet probable propensity for violence. He's offered to 'start a fight' then call the cops and lie about it, blame me; to have me evicted on the spot. Of course I am going to avoid him.
And Nmom's Nboyfriend goes home to his wife who is on disability and every economic assistance program. He has never in his life supported himself financially in his life nor made a legitimate income since he's meet my mother.
Crazy asshole.
Edit: I will post the shortened audio of this bullshit convo.
The Nboyfriend wants cash for the Rolex because he doesn't have any money to buy his wife a gift. This is what's so entertaining about this adulterous relationship, Nmom's Nboyfriend lies, scams her to give him money to buy things for his wife. He's been doing this scam for years.
The Nboyfriend was also in the fridge going through the items of mine, touching all of it and asking what these foods are & if it should be tossed. He knows I am recording their conversations. So he is rifling through my food to encourage me to lash out at him. So he can have his physical fight.
Nmom's Nboyfriend also took down the Xmas tree last year, normally I put the tree up & take it down. Well this year the Xmas tree skirt us no where to be found. The Nboyfriend probably tossed it out last year out of spite and blame me. It was the Xmas tree skirt Ngrandma made before her hands went total criple from arthritis. So Nmom is going to resent him, and might just blame me. I think I have a backup of our SMS convo about taking down the tree or I might have audio of the convo. Who knows? I recorded & backup everything.
This triad of blame, deciet and bullying is somewhat similar to what happened between me, Edad and Nmom as I was growing up. Nmom would take turns lashing out at both of us, and Edad would either get out of the way or turn Nmom's vitrol onto me.
Like the section of this night's convo where I left a note 2 days after Nboyfriend's last visit. Nmom refuses to pick up her dishes. She leaves them strewn across the house and expects me to collect them & put them in the dishwasher. I stopped picking up her dishes this week. Nmom did bring the dishes to the kitchen, yet will leave the dishes in the sink until her Nboyfriend shows up. Only when her Nboyfriend shows up does she cease drinking, hide the booze, shower & put on makeup and clean up after herself.
its 3.30am and I am so angry I can't sleep.
Nmom even stayed up until midnight to catch me getting back to her house tonight. A friend drove me home after pizza & touch football today. He waited 90 minutes with me parked in his car waiting for Nmom to go to bed. I am not having Nmom sling insults at midnight. No way.
2nd Edit: Beginning of the clip he is demanding to cancel my xmas order, 2 minutes later he's demanding an eviction date, a minute later again he's asking if I hate him or fear him. And Nmom mentions if her Nboyfriend moves in, I would be out sooner. Nboyfriend has only lived with Nmom when either me or my sister lives with her. And the kitchen must be clean every day it is part of the rules. If I don't have the house perfectly in order Nboyfriend goes through the house using every thing not in a place he deems fit is an excuse to evict me sooner or now.

Still trying to find the Rolex convo piece, found a few other idiotic comments though

Edit: for a background this I uploaded 3 months ago : yourlisten.com/mommydearestholdout/second-partb
Nmoms Nboyfriend has gone on a 'vengence' bender lecturing Nmom like an excon every two weeks. They guy doesn't back off and has marginally close to total control of Nmom. Its fun watching her suffer the wrath of loser like the Nboyfriend and he has really ruined a lot of her life. Which is why I normally humor the loser.

Questions Answers
How hard was it to find work again? Did you feel lost or free when you got released? Excuse my ignorance for the next question, I am not aware of the American justice system. How did people doing life carry themselves, did they have a "I dont give a fuck anymore and prison guards should be afraid of me because I have nothing to lose" attitude? Were there racial tensions? What was the prisoner hierarchy like? Were the guards abusive? Okay, lots of questions here. 1. It was extremely difficult. You really have to convince people to take a chance on you. 2. I felt great. I was ready to start over. 3. Most of the lifers I knew were the best friends to have. They accepted that this was their life and wanted to be as stress free as possible. It's the young guy doing 2 years that you have to be weary of, he 'doesn't get it' yet. And he has so little time, that adding an extra few years on isn't a big deal. Lifers just don't want you to take their good paint brushes that you can't get anymore! 4. Racial tensions are present 24/7. 5. It's case by case, most just want to do their job
How do you feel about prison reform? What changes do you see as the most urgent to help fix some of the systemic problems? They put anyone in prison now. They are crowded with people that don't belong there and that leads to overpopulation and budget cuts. Less prisoners = more money to spend on rehabilitating the people that need it. The fact is most prisoners are not lifers. It makes sense to try to make them better human beings and give them options when they get out. Victims don't like hearing this, and they vote. But that leads to new victims that possibly could've been avoided.
I'm not able to read the article at the moment but I've been reading through the thread. OP, how come, if the other party was going to beat you up, that it couldn't have been argued as self defence in court? It was self defense, just not justified. That is why I did 15 years for manslaughter and not 25 to life for murder. One thing that the article does not mention is that this guy and his friends had a reputation of jumping people. I can guarantee you if I had gotten the upper hand in the fight his friends wouldn't have let it continue long. Not justifying my actions, but the prosecution knew all this and charged me accordingly.
Do you feel prisons do enough to tranistion longer term prisoners back into the world? Do you feel that a better transition program would lower repeat offenders? They absolutely do not. I am in the minority. I have been home over 3 years now and without the support I got from family and friends I don't know if I would've made it this far. I was totally unprepared, but figured it out. People who don't have that support system are likely to go back. Real job skills are needed for these guys.
How was the transition between juvenile detention and prison when you turned the legal age? I was pretty nervous to say the least. They roll you up at 10pm the night of your 18th birthday and take you to the adult side at midnight.
It was different. In juvenile it's more of anything goes. In the adult system there are rules you have to follow. There is a code among convicts. In juvenile there is none of that.
Any advice to someone about to do at minimum a few years fed time? Get a copy of the rules for personal property and have it ready to go as soon as you get there. Have a goal. Try to accomplish something before you get out. I know guys that got their Masters degrees inside. You have to have money for that, but it can be done. Mind your own business. Don't ask questions.
Do you think prison made you think about what you have done and rehabilitated you? Or did it just make things worse by discriminating you as "ex con"? Of course I thought about what I'd done. I feel like I rehabilitated myself. The discrimination you get in the job market is justified, but to a point. There has to be a line where employers can decide to give someone a second chance. Many applicants can't even get in the door because of blankets policies.
How have you changed as a person from age 16 to age 32? I've grown up. I was a teenager that made poor decisions. Now I am an adult with responsibilities and am accountable for everything I do. Most importantly, I recognize what an idiot I was and now I think about how every decision affects peoples lives.
What prison were you in? Florence? I grew up in the area where this happened. Do you feel like there was a certain attitude in the area at the time that may have influenced your own attitude? Over 15 years I was moved around. I spent 2 years in Florence central unit. The 90's were different, not just in that area. Troublemakers were more popular in school. A lot of the 'cool kids' were fucking losers. I've had this conversation with my daughter. Fortunately, times have changed.
I totally agree with your second point. I was a nerdy kid (only a few years younger than you) and I remember being afraid of the "gangbanger" mentality. Not even the real criminals, just those kids with crazy mentalities. Have you ever lived anywhere besides Phoenix? Ever plan to? I love Phoenix, and can't afford to live by the ocean.
If you kept yourself to yourself in prison, and never did anything to annoy anyone would you still be raped and abused? As I said in other comments, every state and institution is different. Raped, probably not. Abused? Maybe. You have to stand up for yourself if you think someone is trying to take advantage of you in any way. The willingness to fight is more important than the ability to fight.
Have you or do you intend to make amends for what you did? Is that even possible? It is not possible. I ran into the younger brother once about a year after coming home. He assaulted me. The victim's mother quit a support group she was involved in after one of the members went to visit her son's killer in prison.
How often did innocent people get put in prison, and how often did the prison make them worse people? I have no way of knowing that. More often than not it wasn't that someone was 'innocent' it was that they got fucked by the justice system. For example, if you believe his story, I met a guy doing life for a homicide that was completely negligent.
Do you think you are cursed to lose so many of the best years of your life and do you work and if so at what and does it provide enough to pay for room and board? Absolutely not. I made the choices that resulted in my incarceration. So I have no one to blame but myself. I lost a lot, but am in a good place now. In fact, I couldn't even take it back because if things hadn't happened the way they did, I wouldn't have my daughter today.
You had your daughter because you went to prison? My daughter was conceived after the crime, but before I went to prison. If I could go back in time and not go to that party, I would not have the daughter I have today. I would not change anything that results in not having her.
After the crime? That same night? And is your relationship with your daughter? Not that night. I ended up free on bond for about 8 months. My daughter and I are closer than a lot of parents are with their kids. We spent 6 hours talking every other weekend for the first 15 years of her life. That might be more than some parents talk to their kids.
Isn't killing someone one of the worst decisions a person can make? Coming from the handle, Hey Man Nice Shot Irony?
Are you more or less strict on her as a parent than your parents were for you? Kids are going to do what they want. I try to be open and talk about things and make her understand that we all have to live with the consequences of choices we make.
Do you stay in touch with anyone you met in prison? What became of the kids who were involved in the stabbing? I do, but very carefully. Even though I made some good friends over the years, I have to remember that like 8 out of 10 go back. I don't want to be around when they do. I'm not really sure about 2nd question.
Why were you up with that "gangster style " stuff anyway? I think kids who don't like themselves try to feel better by assuming a different identity. Some kids dye their hair black and pierce everything, others pretend they grew up in the same hood as 2pac.
Did you understood in prison that this isnt really good what you did ? Do you still have problems with that? Well yeah, all I had to do was look around to see exactly what it gets you. I don't have problems with it now. I make smarter decisions.
What's your dream job, now? Also the man you saw get beaten to death, was it multiple people or just one? I don't know. I enjoy my job, but I'm not passionate about it. I feel like I'm a balanced person and that makes me unable to focus on one thing too much. As for the 2nd question, multiple.
Was it just because he was a child molester? Every time I've seen something like that on tv like homeland, southland, sons of anarchy, it really stuck with me. Does it stick with you? As far as I know, in that case it was because of what he did. I doubt I'll ever forget it.
Late to te party but how was your typical day ? How did you spend your days in prison ? Do you have any "good" memory fron prison ? Yes, I do. I made some very good friends over the years. One of the hardest parts of making a friend is that when one of you is transferred somewhere else you will most likely never see them again.
Are you able to vote while in prison, or does it work differently? If so, how does it work? No. But as a 1st time offender I automatically get my rights back (with the exception of owning a firearm) so I am looking forward to voting for the first time this November.

What's the craziest drug you ever tried? 1) Molly, baby, and it's not even crazy. It's an amazing drug! You ever see that movie limitless? I tried Molly when I was rich, I was at NYC's fashion night out. I dont get addicted to drugs, I'm not a drug user. I popped 7 mollies, some blue ladies...That night--2012, Fashion Night Out, was literally one of the best nights of my life. I pulled a filibuster, i literally talked to this one dude for FOUR hours! It's like a party literally, it's 5th avenue's equivalent to Rodeo Drive. Free Champagne, everyone coming all over. Molly is a great drug IF you don't get addicted to it. If you can handle it, you can handle it. I dont recommend it to anybody but I'm not a drug user, I don't do drugs.
What is your favorite fast food restaurant and what do you usually order? 2) It wouldnt really be considered fast food, but in NYC, fast food restaurnats are like home cooked food. West Indian restaurants are my fave. Good restaurants I would shout out would be the Door or Tropical Paradise. West Indian food man best food in the world. I was raised by Jamaicans. West Indian Food man!
Did you read back the feed recaps on Utopia Madness or other sources and did you discover any juicy stuff? ;-) I discovered that a lot of people are saying bad stuff, thinking that the show is scripted, that it's not actually as free as it is. My advice is to watch the LIVE FEED, its all real, it's not scripted. You'll get to see every aspect of the individual from the good, the bad, to the ugly. I was surprised the most that a lot of people were turned off after the first 15 minutes? Scripted? We was as free as we could be. Looking back now, and seeing people say, "Dave we missed you, we wish you were there." You think you don't make an impact on people, you really do. In life, you influence the 10 closest people to you. Put me in a room with 15 people,a and I'll impact themm all, whether it's negative or positive.
I've watched a bit of the live streams, but always wonder about the behind the scenes aspects of shows like this. Anything you can share that doesn't appear obvious? Rules you have to follow, things you could/couldn't do, etc. There is no behind the scenes! If there is anyone in the world who watched the livestreams from start to finish, there's nothing behind the scenes!! Every single aspect of every single person good bad was seen. Fox did a good job of representing that.
There's no such thing as going on behind the scenes! All of these other scripted shows are fake. People say they don't like reality TV because they see themselves in their own lives. People don't like to see themselves.
People go on instagram and facebook, but that's not real. People should be allowed to share negative things.
You gotta be able to express the FULL reality of your life. If not, you're not being real. Social media needs to start people expressing real stuff about their life!
Which Pioneer would you like to see voted out of Utopia next? That's hard, because I got two. Rob and Mike!
I like both of them. There's no personal animosity, but i feel ike they're fake. They won't express their feelings to your face. Be honest, be upfront, it's all good. I feel like they're the kind of people who won't tell you...
In life, you got to keep the grass cut so you can see the snakes coming. Shout out to Hex, she's a nice girl. I wish the pastor was there to baptize them. She was ready. She's been in a lot of tough situations in her life. I could tell, in her eyes.
I went on Utopia to show the world that ex-convicts and felons can make a change and are not stuck in any one box or construct. Everything that we stood up for in the Utopia State of Freedom, they initially pushed us away, we were the outcasts. I'm gone but not forgotten. My quotes were on the wall, Red has some of my clothes. Everything that I stood up for and initially rejected, they're stil there now. The only thing was, I wear my heart on my sleeve, I speak for my convictions, and Amanda told me if i toned my delivery down, people may have been open to my opinons--it's something i need to work on, it's something that Christ will have to help me work on.
I'm also from NY (CI) so I have a silly question: how often did you go to Coney Island as a kid (or adult)? Lol. I went a lot, a few times--I got mad family in brooklyn, shout out to Starlight City, Gershwin projects. Most of my family live in brooklyn, I was a foster child. I moved, but i was born in Harlem, and then moved to Queens. I remmeber first getting on the Cyclone, Nathan's hot dogs, everything. Coney Island is dope.
Dirty ass water though! I dont recommend swimming in that sh*t. I ain't got on a plane in my life until 29. Nobody couldn't tell me NYC was the world. We thought NYC was everything.
Will you be meeting up with Preacher Jon? He mention he would like to offer you to come stay with him in TN. Absolutely, definitely. I've been getting a lot of hits and people in Tennessee, they all proud of me, happy that I made that transition. Im going to be giving my testimony at Pastor Lovelace's Church. I accepted Christ into my life and he has the power to change me. I've been so comfortably these last few years, I could definitely use His help. I'm honored to have met that dude. He's from the bible belt, I'm from South Jamaica Queens. If he can get to me, he can get to anyone.
If you had been made president of Utopia, how would you have run the joint? Also, what are your feelings about the group having a trial about you without allowing you to defend yourself? It would be free, it would be for each other. We would be allowed to eat how we want to eat. We would come together on our common goals. Focus on the tasks at hand. DOn't become too personal. When things become too personal, that messes stuff up. As far as the trial is concerned, the fact that I'm willing to accept responsibility for my actions, that's fine with me, cuz i also had the chance to come back and be baptized. They let me come back and make my amends, that was cool.
Who was the most annoying/worst contestant on the show? BELLA. She's so senstive, like oh my god. I like Bella though and I even have mad respect for Josh. After I watched the recap of him that got put online when he was drunk, that sh*t was hilariuos!! I was wondering if that's really how he is when he's drunk. He doesn't need a desisgnated driver, he needs a designated walker!!! Josh is crazy, he's a funny dude though. I got respect for Josh, you know what I'm saying? Be yourself! Be you!
Where do you see yourself two years from now? I think you got the short end of the stick man. Good luck to you. I got a couple of different views the way I see myself in the next two year. I see myself mastering my barber craft in Hollywood. I'd love to work with 50 cent--I'd love to fit into my demographic.
Ultimately, if that doesnt work out, I plan on meeting a rich milf with $20million in alimony, and she just wants a young guy like me to show just how young she really is! I also defintiely in two years want to be finishing up my book, an inspirational book.
Dave, What was your biggest problem with the pioneers? Do you think anyone can get along with Bella? My biggest problem with the pioineers was them having secret meetings having decisions for the group without everyone in agreeance. Don't be sneaky!
Bella's an amazing girl, she's a sweetheart, she's just really sensitive.
You can tell she's been through a traumatic experience in her life. For her, whatever happened to her in her life, it made her turn into a shell. She's a real nice lady though, real nice.
If you could go back to #Utopia later in the year, who would you like to see voted off? Oh the lawyer, Mike. Get him outta there. He's a F--n punk. Maybe cuz he's a criminal lawyer.
I was watching the live feed of when they were having a meeting about me (in my hotel room), and I got to accept the impact that I made on these people on a negative and positive light. There's something about Rob that shakes me. Don't be sneaky. I show you who I am, you're gonna know who I am, that I'm opinionated.
Why were you such a baby about not having all your stuff in the crate? That first initial moment--it took me back into another place. I walked into UTOPIA with a calm spirit. For the initial meeting being so chaotic, i didnt know what to expect. It kind of reminded me of jail. i had an experience one time in jail, you don't know what to expect, and literally five minutes later, there was bloodshed. This just took me to a different place, that's what i was thinking
How did you get on the show? I got on the show by auditioning, I was at the right place at the right time. I was the only person at homeboy industries who raised his hand when the casting team walked in, cuz they wanted to try somethign new. It was part of God's plan and I was interested in trying something new. You gotta listen, you gotta focus, you never know what opportunities may pass you by.
Why would you ever want to side with a dude like Red??? Number one, because me and red got similar energy. Like minds think alike, we're free spirits. His background, he came from the same circumstances as me. We grew up with nothing. He was a fun person, he was opinionated. IF i were to meet him on the street, I would have embraced him the same.
I can't wait to go to Kentucky, he offered me a job!
Watching you on the show it was clear as day to me God wants you to reach people who are lost. Has he been dealing with you about becoming a youth minister ? Wow, absolutely. Absolutely. This is not the first time in my life that I've been challenged with that idea. I know deep down in my heart, I'm supposed to speak to youth. At 32 years old, I'm still growing, and it's only because I'm not afraid. I never get stuck. You gotta keep growing, keep trying new things. You got to be like what the Apostle Paul says, more than a conquerer. I defintiely want to talk to you
Do you think being in Prison helped you or hurt you in the Utopia experience? Being in prison helped my Utopian experience I stood up for myself and what I believe in, and despite having a negative impact, i think people started standing up for themselves. Sometimes people wont like what you did or how you do it but stand up for yourself. Be yourself. Don't let anyone dictate who you shold be. There's nothing wrong with being yourself.

2014.08.31 03:05 tatsuedoa The fuck is wrong with you?!

Okay so ive been here a few times and my rants have been about my dumb self victimizing asshole of a mom and the type of people she seems to love.
so about me. Im 20 years old, no criminal record, most people I have extended conversations with praise me as some sort of saint among a generation of idiots. (I am not, im an asshole who has learned to pick my fights when in a bad situation.) I've been homeless 3 times due to a mixture of things. First 2 I was in highschool and they were fairly unavoidable, I let the situation get to me and chose to pass up a few things (drivers license, romantic relationships, even plutonic relationships outside of school.) The third was earlier this year from completely avoidable reasons but thanks to mommy and my drug addict brother I was ignored, not that I am exempt from blame.
So being 19/20 about to relive the worst parts of my very shitty life, I decide to try and fix myself. I talk to a recruiter, figure out what I need to do to cut and run, get a gym membership and lose about 30 or 40 pounds.
This is monumental, I have been overweight (pretty much morbidly obese) for my entire life. Took 2 months but just at that my mom finds and apartment and its all good news. I was still far from my goal but a door was unlocked now.
this is where it turns south. She wanted to invite this asshole in a wheelchair to live wih us. I object as he had already cost us about 200 bucks because he wanted a motel room, or a cigarette or something. She said he was her boyfriend (bitch you met him a month ago and he's married to the fat loud mouth bitch over there.) And she wanted to help. Takes 2 days of me being more adament then I ever have with her, but she agrees.
The next month isn't very fun. I try to go to the gym, but I am no longer able to walk there and quickly run out of bus passes. She says she cant spare any and that she needs to be able to go into town for unspecified reasons. Fine, I'll think of something I guess.
2 month in, she invites another lady to spend the weekend with us saying "just until her bus leaves to myrtle beach." I didnt like it, but it was 1am and she was already here. She helps out a bit, so even though its uncomfortable I put up with it.
she leaves and all of a sudden this other wheelchair bound bastard is living with us (when did my small home become a shelter?) I put up with it, thinking shes just being a bitch and will come out and say "see we can fit a third person in this basically closet apartment." And invite original ironside asshole.
nope turns out in the 1-2 month time period that I said no to the first one, she broke up and started dating this prick. The worst part is, I am stuck in this shitth place with this asshole who smells like a sewer and tracks mud, dirt, bugs and other shit in my home while she goes into town and hangs out with addicts, bums and users doing absolutely nothing possitive for us.
So I get depressed. I end up sleeping all day just to get through it. We've been in situations before, what gets me through it is my outlets. I play video games, cook, write, or draw. But heres the thing, I cant play video games because I sold my xbox and tv before this happened, hoping to atleast keep things salvageable. I cant cook because my kitchen is a microwave and plug in stovetop. I cant write because I only have a tablet and its hard to type like this. I cant draw because I cant even afford paper and pens.
So the depression gets pretty bad. I would never act on some of these thoughts but everything feels like a push or prod, Robin Williams' death felt like a cosmic dare for me to run into traffic.
Eventually as I always try to avoid, depression and saddness turns into anger and frustration. I try and walk to the store or something just to be away from these assholes. But like always miss perfect needs to confront me and my "attitude."
So lets talk about her. She is 51 years old. She grew up in the suburbs with a chemical enginer father who made good money working for Chrysler. A college professor turned kindergarten teacher mother who also made decent money. She got to play sports without some anal retentive asshole pulling her out the second a threat of injury happens. Her parents spent alot of time and money making sure that even though she's deaf she wouldnt grow up any different. She doesnt have the speech impediment, she was given top quality hearing aides and even went to college in new york on their dime.
Now she had a great childhood even as a deaf woman. Its her bad choices as an adult that has given her a shitty life. She dropped out of college, married an excon and had 2 kids with him, waited for him to steal half her money and put her in the center of a riot because he let his 5 year old son call a little black girl a nigger in a not very white neighborhood.
Then she moved, had a son with another man as her divorce finalized. He died and I have no idea if he was decent or not (probably not given her track record.) Didnt save a picture, or contact information in a safe place and watched as it all burned away in an apartment fire.
So from what ive seen her perfect person is like my second oldest brother and his now dead father. Drug addict, user, racist, and whiney do nothing bastard. Just like this fuck living with us.
No for the most recent fuck. For the last 2 or 3 weeks ive been trying to sleep normally. And I finally got it a few days ago. And what happens? Last night at 2am this lazy fuck starts watching a movie at full volume while I try and sleep. I cant sleep so fuck it, ill watch a movie until he decides to not be a rude little bastard and shuts it off.
eventually I get a period where my movie is the only noise. So I turn it off, and go try to sleep. Not even 1 minute later his movie is back on. Being a passive aggressive asshole I just punch the wall a few times to avoid walking over there and beating his fucking ass over his rudeness. "Man im tired of this shit!" He says, probably not realizing thst im not a deaf asshole like he seems to be.
so let me get this straight. You are living in someone elses home for absolutely nothing, not even going out to get your own groceries, you take up all our space, never clean the dishes you use, or the tabaco and dirt all over my kitchen counter and floor, and your tired? Fuck you you dumb asshole mother fucker.
I swear if it happens again my face is going to be on the news with "man arrested after killing lazy bum in his home." At this point its probably the only way my bitch of a mom will show me any respect.

2014.05.08 18:08 paradiseismisery NMom Facebook guilt trip

I'd like to start off by saying I'm sorry but I have to rant about this to someone who understands the type of person I'm dealing with.
My mother raised me until I was 6 and hasn't been a very big part of my life since. She is a drug addict (used to be heroin, now it's methadone, flexarill, and valium), whore, theif, liar, excon, she stole my identity, and has abused and abandoned all four of her children. She is a diagnosed schizophrenic and worst of all, a narcissist. Here she is on facebook asking for a mother's day present.
I am expecting a child in August. I sent Nmom an announcement in the mail with the exact due date and the name of my unborn (hint: It isn't George.) For the record, the reason she didn't get to see my son (light grey) until he was two is because she was in prison until he was two. I am having a hypno-waterbirth - the whole idea being a peaceful and positive environment for my son to be born into. The relationship between Nmom and Gma is tense. The last road trip they took (a few months ago) was full of fights, both verbal and physical and Nmom was drugged up for most of the trip. I can't imagine why Nmom thinks it would be a good idea for them to drive 6 hours together to my home which is already going to be cramped in an attempt to accomodate my Gma. Of course Nmom felt the need to post this on my wall where everyone can see if I reject her, instead of politely asking in a private message.
Here is the post where she is asking to come to my birth.
Legend:
Nmom = red
Me= Dark purple
Gma = pink
My sons = dark grey & light grey
My little sister = light purple
FOLLOW UP: I noticed the message I sent her on FB still shows as "unread". I spoke with her boyfriend and it turns out she was taking extra methadone pills and ran out... now she's sick until her next refill. Go figure.

You said you saw a rape (rapes?) happen in a previous comment. Were you just a bystander or how did it all go down? I was walking by the showers and four men were violently attacking a smaller guy. I didn't stop it or say anything because I would have been brought into it myself. I wanted to say something but I didn't want to get attacked myself. It sucks though because I'm not the type of person to stand by while something like that goes on but I'm really small.
What happened to the small guy? He went into protective custody after getting stabbed.
How long were you in prison and can you explain the crime a little (what did you take, what weapon did you use, etc)? I explained the crime up there. I got 22.25 months for a robbery 1 and 1 strike. (strike means 3 times your out. Your in prison for the rest of your life.) but ended up only doing 16 months for good time.
Damn, only 16 months? That's amazing for armed robbery. Well technically it was 22.25 months but 16 on good behavior. First felony so yes I was lucky.
How are you? Was it worth it? I'm doing wonderful now. I am going to school in April and getting my life back together. I'm 26 at the moment. NO! It wasn't worth it at all!!! Not for even one second. Yet despite my prison experience I took the positives from it and moved on.
Do you feel blessed you got out of prison and how do you view the world now that you are out? Would you volunteer to be a speaker and mentor the younger generation about crime and punishment? Best of luck on life and be positive...you got a second chance...dont waste it! I am blessed. I felt blessed in prison as well to have an awakening like that. I took the positives such as three meals a day, a bed, a roof over my head, being sober and other things and I held onto those positive things. I am trying to go to college so I can build a community music center to help troubled youth. I would like to help kids that have been in my situation as a child. Yes I would like to speak about my crimes and punishments but I am no mentor.
Have you thought about the employees you robed not the company per say but the workers? Had you ever been robed at gun point? Do remember if you pointed the pistol at anybody? Yes I do think of them and I am very ashamed of it. Yes I have been robbed. No I didn't point the pistol at anyone. I was in the military so they taught me not to do that unless you are going to kill someone.
Well you did your time. And now you are good its just a shame we have a society that vilifies felons or excons. I am off the opinion that if a mam did his time and feels bad for the victims then they deserve a second chance. Hopefully you get that second Chance with a career. Thank you. I'm not a bad person, I just made a bad decision.
Do you think your time in prison was beneficial? Why or why not? It was. Instead of doing drugs or getting caught up in violence I used my time to re-educate myself. I taught myself Italian and studied because I want to go to school.
Are you staying clean? Yes. I'm over a year sober and it feels great.
What were the available programs like in prison? School, substance abuse treatment, vocational training, etc? Did you take advantage of any of them? I taught myself Italian and studied so I can go to school in April.
You're the first ex-offender on reddit that I've seen mention rape in prison. Most of the ex-offenders on reddit make a big point to say that all the prison rape is blown way out of proportion and is an absolute rarity. Was this case you witnessed the exception or the norm? Why was this person raped, for sexual gratification or dominance? What type of facility were you in? It isn't the norm cuz we are watched closely and the guys didn't get away with it. They got caught. I'm not sure why they did that. I was in a medium facility.
People usually say that every prison is made of gangs depending on ethnicity i guess, and that people who aren't in any of them don't go well in...is all of that true? if it is, how did you manage to live 'normally'? It is, but I stayed away from most people. I had a few select people who watched my back but as far as being in a clique I stayed out of that. It would only get me more time if I did that. Cliques tend to make people stab someone or beat someone up just to join them and I just wanted to do my time and get out.
Were you ever afraid that you will be a stabbing target for any reason? Once but I got jumped instead around my birthday.
Were you an addict at the time? You story says you snorted oxy. If you were an addict, did you become clean in prison? How was that process? I was an addict. Um it wasn't hard to stay sober in prison. I've been over a year sober now. I just stayed away from people and drugs in there but I feel much better.
Been there myself before. What helped me was letting go of bad influence friends. Also I do have a few questions how did you get the gun? What brought you to use oxy etc...? Did you use the education program's in the prison? The gun was my own. I have had problems with drugs my whole life. I did. I taught myself Italian. It was life changing.
Out of sheer curiosity, what ethnicity are you? I am Italian.
Was the gun loaded? No. The gun was not loaded.
What are you going to do now ? Go back to school.
What was the best and worst thing about your lawyer? He was a truck. But he did get me 22.25 for an armed robbery so I can't complain.
Maybe a stupid question but were you guilty? Yes. I am guilty of my crime.
I'm happy for you man. So many try but fail to leave the life. I wish you well, Thank you. I just want to distance myself as much as I can from all that.
What's the goddamn highest you been? Not sure.
Did you max out? If not,how long are you going to be on paper? Yeah it's a bullshit AMA. The one legitimate prison question and he has no idea what I'm talking about. No I didn't max out. I have no DOC after I get out due to a new legislation law that was passed a few months ago.
So what was you armed with? 45.
So did you drop the soap? No.
You were lucky you robbed someone in the state were in. Where I am at, its a measure 11 crime with a mandatory 7 years minimum. Yup. A gun charge here is 5 years min but they dropped the gun charge. I got really lucky because it was in fact my first felony and I have never been in trouble before.
Hello fellow beaver stater! Yeah, BM11 has created interesting disparities in sentencing with some other states. Then again, some states have schemes we'd consider crazy. So it goes with our federal system. OSU? You said fellow beaver stater lol I am from the 541 but wasn't arrested in that state. Go Beavers!
Sounds like your in cali. It's going to be rough finding work with a record. Just keep at it or even look into by truck driving and eventually get your own truck. I'm on the West Coast.
Explain your username. Also it's good to hear that you put that life behind you. Keep your head up! Uh I was being stupid when I made it.
Seriously, you committed a ridiculous crime and you expect people to Q&A you like you're some sort of mentor. You had that gun and deserved every second of jail time now go live your life with what you got left and leave humanity alone. Lol no I am not a mentor I was just answering peoples questions who are curious that's all, yet who are you to judge me? I appreciate the feedback though.
If you're going to make an AMA, it would be a good thing to actually answer some questions...just sayin' I am aren't I?
Sorry my bad, i saw just first few 20+hrs ago No worries. I just had to leave early.
Hope you get your life on track. To be real though people like you are whats wrong with this country. You're a dirt bag. Get your shit together You are correct. I was a dirt bag at that time.

How did you, a non-violent offender, end up in a maximum security facility? How did you cope with prison? How was your first night? I ended up in an altercation with a guard at the county jail before I was transferred which is why I ended up in max.
Looking back, do you regret the altercation that put you in maximum security? What happened? Was the guard goading you? Not so much regret, although my time would have been easier. No the guard didn't goad me, I just thought I was a bad ass, I was a punk kid.
As soon as I read this it reminded me of the movie Felon. Not sure if you have watched it or have any interest in watching it. It just kind of rang bells in my head is all. No, but i will look into it. Netflix?
I admire your honesty, and want to thank you for your replies. If I may ask one more question... what positive and negative effects has being in jail had on your outlook on life? Do you think your mental health has been affected? Yes, it affected me, mostly with interpersonal relationships and learning to trust people. On the positive side, people really can't pull the wool over my eyes too easily, I have seen it all.
I am a doctoral student, studying rehabilitation programs in prisons for offenders. While we don't do a lot of work with people who are serving sentences so long that they'll be seniors when released, we are trying a lot of things in prisons: Cognitive behavioral therapy (Where we ask the offender to make a "Chain of events" that lead them to offend), vocational training (Teaching them a trade), college education in prisons, probation instead of incarceration, religious programs, etc. Did you ever participate in any of these programs? Were you ever aware of them? What's the general feeling about "Rehabilitation programs" inside the prison? On an unrelated note, what do you want to do now that you're out? Thank you for your honesty and candor. I did not experience any programs like that. The only thing that was offered at the time was adult education (GED). It depends on what prison you are at. I work everyday but not at a job that uses all my potential sadly. I have had difficulty due to most employers doing background checks.
Other than finding employment, what's the most difficult part of having a criminal record? You would be surprised how much they can affect your personal relationships. A lot of trust has to be built. My current wife's brother actually ran a check on me while we were first dating and told the whole family, although did not tell us he had done so. My now wife knew upfront about my past but it still created an awkward situation with my in-laws initially.
What was your crime, and if nonviolent why was the actual sentence so long? Why did you only spend six years out of fifty? Daytime burglary, credit card fraud, forgery. The sentence was so long due to my juvenile record. A lot of people are misinformed- In the state I was sentenced in, they can use your juvenile record against you for a period of 5 years after your 18th birthday because it shows a pattern of behavior. 40 of the 50 years were suspended and served 6 on remaining 10.
When you say 40 of the 50 years were suspended, what exactly does that mean? I was given a 50 year terms. They required me to do 10 but held the other 40 over my head. If I had committed any crimes upon my release, I would have been required to finish out the remaining 40.
What's difference between Daytime Burglary and "regular" burglary? Is it just the time of the day that you do it, and is the sentence more severe? Daytime is considered less because there is less of a chance of someone being at home, not sure if this is still categorized this way. It doesn't make it less significant.
What did you forge, how did you get caught? I forged checks that did not belong to me and was turned in by my ex-wife.
Ok, so is that held over you for the rest of your life, or is there a certain time period? The 40 years were taken away as soon as I finished probation. Today I am free and clear.
Could anything as simple as jaywalking have sent you back to prison? Technically when you are on probation any violation of the law can send you back to prison. For me, no. Such a minor infraction most likely would not have sent me back, although I am guessing.
So is that parole ? It is called Probation.
I know that burglaries in PA have either person present or no person present next to the charges. Obviously if someone was home it would be much worse. Source: I was a druggy and stole from my Neighbor when I was 18. My charge was Burglary-no person present. Yes, that's pretty much how it was in my state. Both PA and VA are commonwealths, although I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it.
ex-wife Were you divorced by 18 ? Do you resent her for it ? She was not my ex-wife then, sorry for the confusion. I don't even think about her now.
Oh ok I understand, thanks for clearing that up ! Congratulations on being free, and thanks for the AMA! Thanks so much for being a part of it!
Glad to hear you're free and clear. And the 40 years went away. I have to think though, that at any potential future sentencing hearings, this would come up, and be used against you? Potentially my former record could come into play if I was convicted of another crime. Your record stays with you forever.
What did yo do to get you sent back for 5 months? Left the state without permission and missed a PO meeting.
How long did you spend on probation after you got out? The remaining four years? 9.5 years after that I was finished.
Shit, I've done both of those things. Was your probation overly strict much more strict than average because of the severity of your crime? That's the way it was in the state I was in back in the 90's.
Hey dude, thanks for doing IAmA. I've got a hypothetical for you: if you were put in charge of the legal and penitentiary systems today with free reign to change anything, what would you do? Better mental health care, more educational opportunities for life skills and more vocational training. Aftercare is important.
I'm a high school English teacher who is looking into doing volunteer literacy programs at prisons. Do the inmates enjoy programs like that? What sort of attitude would I expect if I were to do such a program? Absolutely. When you are in prison, some people, like myself, will take any opportunity that is offered to them. I would expect people to be receptive for the most part and you would be doing a lot of good.
I've considered doing something like this as well, but I'm not a teaching professional of any sort. What sort of classes were in your prison(s)? What sort of subjects were you or your fellow inmates interested in learning about? GED classes were offered. Anything vocational or providing life skills would be helpful. Anything that would help gain employment upon release- computer skills.
This may sound as a dumb question but I've always wondered how do inmates shave? Isn't there a risk of stealing a razor blade or something like that to make a shank? Not sure how they do it now, but back when I was locked up they would hand out razors and then collect them after a brief period of time. If one came up missing we would get locked down and searched.
Did you ever do solitary confinement? Was it warranted or unfairly assigned? On a couple occasions. Was in solitary when I was stabbed and also locked down when the warden of our facility was stabbed and during some riots.
This is what I fear the most for my son. He's already done "the hole" once and it was NOT justified. Do you have any advice for him about how to walk the line between not being a wimp and not being a troublemaker? I would say stick to himself. If he can get a job while inside to eat up the time then that is great. More time working or in classes leaves less time to get involved in altercations. However you cant escape the fact that in prison shit may happen. I would do everything in my power to avoid confrontations. I know sometimes it is unavoidable. He is lucky to have such a great mom sticking with him.
What's the something that you want to say but no one has asked yet? I love to go fishing and I read every day- both news and literature. Also, even though they suck, I love the Redskins.
HTTR. Hail Victory... well not so much lately.
Did you consider the possible consequence of your actions? Was the potential for prison sentence enough of a deterrent for you? If not, what do you think would be enough of a deterrent? No I didn't because I was addicted to drugs at the time, which is by no means an excuse. I deserved every day I served. There would have been no deterrent for me, prison saved my life.
May I ask what sort of drugs? Cocaine and heroine.
If the victim of your daytime burglary had turned out to be home, what would you have done? What if they had attacked you? Great question and I have no clue how to answer. I was a drug addict. I am not sure how it would have went down. That is why I am thankful I was sent to Prison. It changed my life.
Good, introspective answer, thank you. Some may disagree, but I don't consider burglary to be a non-violent crime because sometimes burglars become violent, or murderers, when the victim is there. I agree with you. It should be classified as such. When I was convicted it was not. I am lucky.
Why did you get stabbed? Any gang realted activities? No. Actually got into the altercation over my first wife. Had some pictures of her in my cell and another inmate who I had been having issues with made some comments and it escalated. She is black and I am white. It ended with me getting stabbed, him getting hit in the head with my TV and me spending almost a year in the hole.
Can you have books when you're in solitary? Yes, thankfully. A book cart came by about twice a week.
Did you masturbate when you were in prison? All the time.
Biggest dick you've seen in prison? My own.
What were your thoughts when you first entered prison? I thought mostly about how much time I had to serve. Being 18, I thought it was never going to end. Also fearful because of my environment.
Ever meet someone called Bubba? More seriously, what was the kind of atmosphere relating to sex offenders? I've often heard of them being reviled and sought out by the majority of prisoners, but not too much about max security. Also, did you end up joining a prison gang or did you keep to yourself? It's pretty hard to tell if someone is a sex offender unless they are announcing it or have a case that is in the media. Most sex offenders try to stay under the radar. No gangs, tried to stay to myself most of the time but there were quite a few gangs.
How do you avoid joining gangs? If they ask and you say "no", do they fuck with you? It was never forced on me, although I cannot speak for others.
Did you enter or consider entering a relationship (physical or not) with another inmate? If so, how did you handle it? If not, how were other inmate-inmate relationships treated and thought of by others? Not personally, however, there were numerous consensual relationships. They are not much different then the relationships you see everyday in your own life... except for the bars and razor-wire.
Really cool you are open about this. I was just wondering how hard it has been finding work and just adjusting to become a "normal" citizen again? I have adjusted to being a regular guy but employment issues stay with ExCons forever. That stigma is part of our sentence. Employment is difficult to find at times.
Did any specific event stand out among others, while you were in jail? Gang shenanigans? Violence? A sexual oreo cookie I witnessed and getting stabbed are probably the things that stood out the most.
Where did something like that occur? The showers? A certain area everyone just knows about? Shower.
Did you ever have the feeling that you were going to killed while inside? Sure, a few times. The thing I had to learn quickly was to stay to myself and mind my own business.
What is an example of not minding your business? I'm wondering if you mean you specifically had to pretend you hadn't seen illegal behavior (snitching), or if you just mean generally not bugging people. Generally just staying to myself.
What is your current motivation or goal you wish to achieve now that you are free? Also, what does it feel like being out and about at the end of 2013. Are you more socially anxious? When I finished my contract with the Marines, after 2 combat tours, transitioning into the civillian world was hard for me. To this day I cannot be in crowds without having an anxiety or panic attack. Do you suffer from any mental or physical ailments now? I have had a lot of anxiety issues, like you, around crowds are the worst. It has been more than a decade since my release and it has not gone away.
Did anything in particular happen while you were in prison to really make you reconsider your life choices? Recidivism is so high typically, what made you different and not make choices that landed you back in the exact same place? Realized I was a punk selfish kid that didn't know shit. I was a coward for stealing from others and I deserved every day I served. Realizing who I was and that I didn't want to be that person lead me to change my life.
Congrats on coming to that realization. I'm so glad it worked for you. Do you think the prison system could do anything better to help other have the same success you have? No, for me it was more of a self-realization of who I was and how I had to change.
Did you have any positive figures in your life growing up? Only my grandfather, God Bless his soul.
How are sports? We had a prison softball and basketball team that I played in pretty regularly.
Maybe a stupid question but weren't there concerns about baseball bats as a weapon? Sure, so were locks or batteries in a sock.
What are the actual "prison rules" that inmates play by on the basketball court? Actually pretty respectful. No one wants to start a big issue over a ball game and most of the teams are grouped together by cliques or gangs.
Did those teams encourage friendships within the prison? No, friendly competition.
Did you ever see any opportunistic violence with a baseball bat or other equipment during games? No, not personally. People weren't trying to fuck up any privileges.
Were you in an institution where conjugal visits were allowed? If so, did you get any while locked up? If not, did you see anyone else get any unauthorized visiting? No, unfortunately in the state I was in we were not allowed to have conjugal visits but that didn't stop people from having sex. We had 2 visitation areas, one outside and one inside. On the outside were picnic tables and whenever the guards would do their rounds and go back in, a lot of shit went down.
Any juicy stories about those picnic table incidents? Had a cellmate whose mom lived in philly. She would come down once every couple months with bundles of dope hidden in her. She would pull the dope out once she got in the visiting room and my celly would swallow it. Pretty fucked up.
Some number of years ago I was in the Phoenix airport (well, outside it) and and I struck up a conversation with a guy who asked me if it was okay to smoke where we were. Turned out he had just been released after serving time for drug and firearm related offenses (according to him) and I was the first person he'd had a conversation with since he got out. One thing he said stuck with me and I've been curious about it ever since. He was from New Jersey and was flying home that day but he told me that the other inmates had a major issue with people from other states, to such an extent that he was kept apart from the general population. Is where you're from really a big deal in prison? No, I never encountered that problem. It was more on the lines of regional gangs within the state.
Howd you get caught? Funny thing is my future 1st wife turned me into the police when she found out I had warrants. The police had threatened her.
What was the first thing you ate when you got a out of prison? I would like to say pussy but no... it was fast food.
Fast food as in a mcdonalds burger? Curious to where you actually ate at. It's been so many years now, it was a burger, that I remember.
Did you ever have any suicidal tendencies while in prison? If you did, how did you prevent yourself from going through with it? I did. I just was never strong enough to follow through.
Why do they sentence anyone to 50 years with 40 of those years suspended, rather than calling it 10 years? So they can keep the time over your head in case you fuck up when you get out.
How did you pass the time while in prison? I read a ton. Also worked out and played ball.
Would you give testimony against someone who got arrested for the same shit you did? Hard to say because I was not in that position. I guess if you are facing a life sentence and the only recourse would be to testify against a co-defendant, I could see where people would think about it. Personally I feel like whatever decisions I make I have to accept the consequences and not put them off on anyone else. I'll let the police and prosecutors do their own work.
What are things you kinda took for granted before being sent to prison? Did being locked in for so long make you appriciate freedom and life even more when you got out? How did you cope with being away from women for so long? I took for granted everything. I was a drug addict and didn't think about anything but my next high until I was locked up. That was when the self reflection began. After that I missed everything.
This might seem ridiculous, but is there anything you miss that is in prison. Like a certain system to things?? No I can't think of anything. Nothing fun about doing time.
What did you do to violate? And why when you were 9/10 years into your probationary period?! Left the state without permission from my Probation officer. Also missed probation meeting. After I was locked up for violating and when i went to court, the judge dismissed the rest of my probation time after I had served the 5 months.
How did your probation officer find out you left the state? Ex-wife. That wasn't enough to seal my violation but when I missed my PO appointment that was.
Was the reason you left the state important? Absolutely, my sons left the state with their mother on short notice and I went to be with them.
She ratted on you and sent you to prison... she ratted on you and got your probation revoked... how long did it take you to figure out that maybe she wasn't the one for you? lol. 12 years.
Is it true that myth that the wise guys control the traffic inside prison? If so, is there any "help" from the guards on circulating stuff around? Certain gangs did control a large portion of the drug trade and guards were certainly in on it. Tons of money to be made inside the walls.
How do the people inside get their money? I imagine most of them aren't well off to begin with. And if you do have money, how do you get it into the jail? Lots of hustles in Prison. From drugs, store boxes and gambling anyone can hustle. Cash money came in mostly through visitation. A $50 bill is worth 100 on the yard.
Would you say it's easier to get drugs inside of prison than outside? At times because of the population and the area is smaller. Never an issue getting them when I used.
Would you say that the depiction of prison in the movie The Shawshank Redemption is a fairly accurate one? Friendship-wise yes, if you can find someone that you click with, violence no.
Brooks was here.
How is the accuracy of Orange is the New Black's portrayal? My wife and I just recently watched. That's a woman's federal prison and it's totally Hollywood.
That is funny because on another AMA recently, I think the OP said it was more or less accurate. Was it a woman in a fictional hollywood prison?
Found it. What do you think about this? Perhaps it is close to their experience, but not to mine.
What was your initial reaction when you knew you could possibly spend the next 50 years of your life inside a prison cell at the age of 18? I was petrified. I actually was facing a lot longer but my plea deal got my sentence reduced. To be honest, I never thought I would make it out,
Do you have any good Pruno recipes? Oranges, bag of tang, bread - place in a bag in your toilet, allow it to breathe, wait about 7 days and get fucked up.
What was the value of one batch of pruno inside? I apologize but I really don't remember, I never had to buy it nor did I sell it, only drank what we made.
Were any riots involved during your time inside? If so, how did it start and how messy did it get? A few, they were quelled fairly quickly. If I remember correctly, gang related and personal property issues is how they all started.
From a prisoner's point of view, what is something about the American prison system that needs to change? Better mental health care. Tons of drugs. Not sure how it is now but when I was in almost everyone was looking to make a buck. Guards, inmates, it did not matter.
Is there anything that goes on on the inside that the majority of the public wouldn't know? Any interesting stories you can share? Warden was stabbed at a facility I was at. We were locked down almost a year. Probably the most interesting thing that happened.
Best commissary food/snacks? Ramen noodles + cheetos + summer sausage + jalapenos = BLICKIE!
Also please share some Mcgyver tactics you learned during your time, you know what im talking about. Use 2 pieces of lead from a pencil in an outlet as a lighter.
How did your time in prison affect your familial relationships (before, during and/or after you served time)? When you were released, what was the first thing "fun" thing you did? Did not stay in contact with my family much while inside. First fun thing? Probably going to Daytona a few months after my release for a week.
My cousin was sentenced to 7 years in prison a few years back. I've had a hard time writing him and don't know where to start or what to say. Any advice? Be consistent. Mail call is the thing inmates look forward to the most during the week. Let him know you are there for him and stick to it, he's looking for any kind of support.
You said your crimes were daytime burglary, credit card fraud and forgery. Were you required to pay restitution to the people you stole from? Yes I was. I am free and clear of the system now.
What does your mind turn to when you've had so much time to contemplate? What did you focus on or think about the majority of the time? I missed my family a lot, thought about how fucked up it was that I stole from other people and victimized them. Prison time gives you a good opportunity for self-reflection.
In the 15 years since, have people granted you forgiveness? I have never been in contact with the people I victimized, I would apologize if I had the opportunity. Not sure if I deserve to be forgiven or if they would.
How hard was/is it to get a job? Pretty tough and still is, will probably always be.
Thanks for doing this. Some of your responses are legitimately inspiring, which I didn't expect to find here. My question is: Does being rich on the outside do anything for your inside? Like for example, would drug dealers or whatever be able to secure favorable treatment etc? Maybe more generally, do you believe that inmates are treated about equally, or do some obviously have the favor of the guards? If you were "in with the guards" how would your life be better? You never wanted to be seen as in with the guards. Most convicts would think you are snitching. However some had business relationships with them and it happened all the time. Prison is the same as the outside world. You have the 'Haves' and the 'Have not's' Money and drugs were a big factor on how you did your time.
How many of the correctional officers you encountered were dirty? Maybe 25% if I had to put a number on it, but it was known.
Did you ever tar the roof of the plate factory in the spring? Yup... and beers to boot.
Did your time give you any kind of PTSD? Are you able to watch any movies like The Shawshank Redemption? And if so, what do you think about them? A lot of anxiety problems and Shawshank is one of my favorite movies.
You mentioned that you played a lot of basketball in prison. Do you still play now, and do you enjoy it? Does it bring back any memories? No, I don't play anymore but I played in a lot of prison rec leagues. At one time I was the only white guy who could dunk at our facility of over 1000 people. That was fun.
Do you keep in touch with any of your fellow inmates? Did you do anything while in prison to better your life once you got out? What was the first thing you ate once you were released? I stayed in contact with my one friend that was locked up for 27 years, but we are no longer in contact now. He has a serious alcohol problem that I have difficulty being around.
Since you are probably a good person to ask, here goes. One of my good friends, that I haven't seen in over 12 years, is getting out of prison next year. He did no violence, is schizophrenic, and spent the last 12 years in prison. What can I do to make it easier for him? What are things I should avoid? What are things I can do to make it easier for him, make him feel more comfortable? Just, what can I do to help my friend in this transition? He went away when he was 19. I'm just worried about how overwhelming it will all be now. I don't want him to end up back there. What can I do to help him? I'm not sure I can really answer about someone with a mental illness. I would say just do your best to be there for him, be supportive and give him time to get adjusted. I would imagine he would need to see a professional.
What are you goals now that you are out? What do you look forward to in life and what is your motivation? What scares you? Thanks for a very interesting read. You seem like a nice and calm person. Goals- to live a long happy life, be a good dad and husband. The people I love are what motivates me. Tsunamis... I am terrified of tsunamis.
